This is a fantastic place to stay on a budget in Toronto. Unfortunately when I was there the music was shut down because of COVID, but I'm definitely going back to see some live music as soon as everything opens up again. My room (single shared toilet) was clean and had everything I needed. The neighbourhood is amazing and full of fun things to do and great places to eat (special shout-out to Hot Black Coffee across the street if you need a wake-up!).

The staff are amazing and very helpful. When we checked in the room was ready and the staff was highly organized so it was a smooth and easy process. We also needed to print out concert tickets and the reception staff printed them quickly for us (no problem at all and was very kind/helpful). The room was comfortable and clean. The bathroom had also been recently renovated. The location can't be beat. The hotel is steps away from the subway, a 24 hour Rexall and many coffee shops/restaurants.

Friendly staff, clean room. Plenty of towels and sink in room. Also has TV in double bed room with shared bathroom. Pretty big room compared to other hostels I've been in. Great location. Lots of restaurants and dispensaries within short walking distance

Me and a female friend stayed at The Rex and we loved it. As female backpackers we’re always trying to make sure a place is safe before we book it. At The Rex we felt very safe. The room was nothing special but they were clean and just like the pictures. Once we checked out they let us store our bags there for the rest of the day as we walked around which was super helpful.

Had private single-bed room, en-suite bath. Room was tiny, clean, comfortable. Great jazz every night, stopped promptly at midnight. Room was right above the jazz bar, so no chance to sleep before midnight, that was fine for me. Jazz quartet that was there the night I stayed was phenomenal. Food in the bar/restaurant was good. Walking-distance to nearly everything in downtown Toronto, including Subway, Tram and Union Station.

Very friendly staff and great location. My room was clean and I appreciated that there were no carpets. I personally didn't mind the shared washroom, though I could see it's not for everyone. I personnally felt way more comfortable and safe here than your typical fancy hotel (which I have to stay at for work sometimes). It was great being able to walk down and listen to some music with a beer before going to bed. A great way to end a day of meetings!

Pros: - Amazing location - Good value for money - Nice staff - Attached restaurant/bar Cons: - Amazing location + but loud and noisy (busy streets) at night time - Should've been slightly less expensive

    Very Good

    17 Dec 2021
I had a good stay overall, but I was frustrated about access to the live music downstairs. Based on information I was sent beforehand, I thought I would be able to attend the show as a guest of the hotel, with a possible cover of $5-10. When I actually went down, there was no mention of the cover and I was later charged $20 because I was seated near the front. While I know the money is going to a good place, I would've liked more options and clarity regarding the show and how much I would pay.

WiFi wasn’t working properly, and I felt that the room was not so clean… I noticed some stain and hair on pillows, and lots of dust in the room as well. I don’t think it was worth that price.

Poor lighting in the room - almost like a bordello - soft yellow light +old sheets +cheap springy mattress +window looking out the roof and wall of adjoining building There's no space for socializing. Just a tiny frontdesk and stairs up to the next floor/corridor where the rooms +antiquated bathrooms +soap dispensers are.No drinking water. Noise from Jazz space below not too much but you could hear TV from adjoining room - so I had to bang on the wall so they'd turn it down. Pretty depressing.
