I thought the hostel was lovely. I loved all the old features in my room it was full of character. Very clean and comfortable too plus great location close to waterfront, gas town etc would highly recommend as a place to stay if visiting Vancouver.

This was my second stay at the St. Clair Hostel. The building is old and not luxurious, but the location is great and so are the staff. It's surprisingly peaceful for a downtown hostel -- not the kind of place that promotes pub-crawls -- and guests mostly respect that quiet atmosphere. Travellers with heavy luggage should note that the hostel is reached by steep stairs up from the street, and there are no elevators.

The hostel is in general terms good. The downside i can think of: It has a very small common area. I didn't see a kitchen nor a good area to eat. The bright side: The location is great, really close to everything. Relatively clean Showers have hot water Friendly staff I stayed only for 3 days and it was ok but I wouldn't choose that place for a period longer than a week (just my opinion)

Great location and plenty of character. I thought it was a little expensive, but then we stayed at the height of summer and availability across the city wasn't good. No air con so the building got very warm, but rooms had fans provided, which helped. Not much common space, but toaster, microwave etc were set out in the hallway with a table to sit at. The double rooms looked nice and even our dorm only had 4 bunks, so it didn't feel crowded. There were laundry facilities.

    Very Good

    30 Aug 2019
It's an old building with no AC or proper ventilation. This meant that it was incredibly hot in the night making it hard to sleep. I'm sure when it's not hot it's fine, but when I was there I barely slept. Parking is also a pain but it's downtown so to be expected.

We stayed for two nights, after the first night we found bed bugs under the sheets after I woke up with bites on my right cheek and neck. We also found that the sheets were already dirty, with brown stains and dirt. When I brought this up to the receptionist, she moved us to another room (which was more expensive) and even dirtier. There were stains on the walls and the sheets were even more stain covered, but no bugs, yay! We were not offered any further assistance with the bug situation. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The building was pretty old and dirty. Bath rooms smelled bad and Dormitory room was too hot to sleep. Staffs were not so friendly and they did not care about customers. I also booked this hostel because they said to serve breakfast, but they didn't do actually.

The place has a foul smell and the room is unpleasant. Noisy beds, towels are old. Overall, not worth for money. I end up stayed in the decent hotel nearby for us to sleep comfortably.
