Te Anau Lakefront Backpackers has the perfect location. It is right across the lake and very close to all the places to eat/drink/shop in Te Anau. The hostel (including the ensuite bathroom and common areas) is very clean and well maintained. I would highly recommend anyone traveling to Te Anau to stay at this hostel.

Cute hostel. Had a great kitchen and nice ensuite for my dorm. The beds and room were a nice set up. Good outdoor area to hang and cook out. The hostel had a cat which was a plus too.

Wonderful hostel, very close to the water and accommodating staff. The staff member helped us book the glowworm cave tour for that very night and gave us easy to follow instructions on how to get to the meeting place. Everything was clean and modern, loved the little cabins and definitely want to try and come back during the winter months to enjoy those marvelous tents they have. Great experience, cheers.

Great hostel. Very comfortable kitchen and common area. Great location. Only thing is there were not many toilets or showers for the number of people. It wasn't much of a problem while we were there but I can imagine it can get quite hectic. The staff we interacted with were lovely, great fun and very helpful! Would definitely stay again!!

Backpackers as an accommodation option can be pretty hit n miss. We thought the Te Anau Lakefront Backpackers was fantastic. A great spot, affordable, and a good layout. We had everything we needed faciilities-wise (aside from towels), had a seamless late check-in with a key left in a safe box for us, and we met some great people. The only downside was that we got stuck with a very LOUD snorer in our mixed 4 bed room. If only we could swap him out... Also, it would have been good to have a safe.

We loved our stay except for the fact that the zip on our teepee was broken - a bit concerning when it was a cool, wet, windy night. The guy on reception did what he could and gave us some gaffa tape to try to close the tent, but it was disappointing that the facilities weren’t up to standard. Other than that the location and quality of accommodation was great!

I got bed bugs at this location. Sometimes, this can be out of a hostel's control (when one person brings it in it affects everyone). However, the staff were friendly and helpful when assisting me in dealing with this issue and graciously gave me a refund. The staff are personable and can help you in bookings/finding free things to do. It is a bit of an older hostel, but it has everything you need.

Old building that hasn’t had much love for a very long time. Only two single bathrooms and toilets for 3 dorms worth of people - this is not even close to enough facilities. Lounge area was nice and cosy. Kitchen space looked alright - but not enough utensils etc for the number of guests
