I can’t say enough good things about the people at the SPACE. They are so kind and accommodating. The location is just outside the hustle and bustle of San Juan if you want to relax but easy shuttles into town if you want to check out the action or shuttles if you want to check out the waves at Playa Madares. Lots of food and drink options as well at the common area if you decide to hang back by the pool.

We had such a great time here. The food is good, the staff are amazing and the room was perfect. It is a bit far if you’re looking to spend a lot of time right in SJDS, but the location is perfect if you’d rather be on the beach! Such a nice chill vibe, definitely a bit more of a resort feel than the average hostel, which was perfect for us!

I originally booked a different hostel closer to Maderas but was less than impressed after a friend got bed bugs. I decided to come to The Space which is a much better location for going into SJDS also close enough to a beach you can walk. The shuttle service was free which was great, however there’s only 4 per day at random times and nothing to get back at night. Pool was super nice, staff was great (aside from first checking in I was uncomfortable with the guy hitting on me). Would stay again!

Good atmosphere. Great food. Very nice hostel, lots of places to hang out outside. Dorms are pretty big and comfy, very clean with huge bathrooms and personal fans for each bed. Only downside is it is 15-20 min car ride to the town of san juan del sur. Need to take shuttle (free from hostel but not at all hours) or taxi.

Overall a wonderful place - quiet, clean, beautiful. Great place if you work remotely, not so great if you want to do something other than chill. No one attends the events they hold. My biggest issue were these two old guys rented a private room and brought back three hookers, and they were all in the common area grinding and making the other guests uncomfortable and the staff didn’t do anything, they just kept serving them at the bar. Super uncool.

My boyfriend and I originally booked just one night but added another once we saw how nice it was! The room was always clean and the beds were comfy. Nice touch with the little locker shelf and fan by each bed. Adilson at the front desk was super helpful with any questions I had and another guy whose name I’ve forgotten (sorry!). The only suggestion I have is to add more shuttles to the schedule going to and from town. More than once it was so full that people were left behind.

The Space is very beautiful and definitely aims to be a notch up from other hostels. The food is also great. However, there’s are some practicalities that are yet to be ironed out (I think the place is still new) e.g. instead of having hammocks up, you have to request that they be hung up for you; the grass is unmown so there is nowhere to put a towel down after swimming without getting furniture wet; the small drinks tables all fall over in the wind. Also the dorms are very tiny.

The manager was a bit hostile and most of the rest of the staff treated us strange except for the short guy with curly hair who works the bar, he was a great person. The Space would be great if they just had more people there. Also they run shuttles infrequent and they end very early as a means to try to get you to spend money at the hostel instead of town. They also are not very organized with their events but I think that’s because they have so few people so they can’t get a schedule
