Overview

With its on-site traditional pub (stocked with English real ales) and a Union Jack flag, The Walrus Hostel has a proper Cool Britannia feel – so it's just the spot for getting a taste of London. You'll have free Wi-Fi for planning your routes to the sights, or grab one of our free city maps if your overseas data plan's pricey. There's a free breakfast, including fresh orange juice and Marmite – a British classic – to keep you going till lunchtime, and a kitchen for whipping up dinner with your new travel buddies.

Location

We're in a really central location about a 10-minute walk from Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. You can stroll to London Waterloo station in 6 minutes to catch a train or underground to check out Oxford Street's shops. Waterloo is also where you'll arrive if you're taking the train from Gatwick Airport – just change at Clapham Junction and you'll be here in less than an hour. We've also got bike hire if you fancy cycling along the Thames – the riverfront is 5 minutes away.

Rooms and Dorms

There are mixed and female-only dorms, with linen included and towels for hire. You'll have your own security locker to pop your backpack in, and there are shared bathrooms with hot showers on every floor. There's also a private room if you prefer to have your own space.

Extras and activities

You can borrow an adaptor from the bar for a deposit if you've forgotten to pack yours, and pick up a novel from the book exchange for downtime. Ask staff for extras like earplugs as well – great if you need a nap after a late night making the most of our happy hour or themed drink nights (did someone say Mojito Mondays?). To keep your passport secure, we've got a safe manned by the staff. There's a luggage room for stashing your suitcase after check-out, too.

Quick and easy checkin. Facilities were clean and the room was pleasant. The pub on the ground floor is a welcoming atmosphere that has daily drink specials. The only downside was the room was on the top floor and it was a maze of spiral staircases to get to the top.

We had a great stay at the Walrus Hostel, there location is so close to a lot of main attractions. It was awesome we got a discount at the bar downstairs. The bar seems to be really popular with the locals. The beds were surprisingly so comfy, we fell asleep immediately after a long day of running around London. I would definitely recommend!

Great hostel with amazing staff! The beds were a bit past their prime and the rooms were a bit cramped, but overall it was an amazing hostel. Breakfast was great (toast, peanut butter and Nutella, fruit, coffee, juice) and the WiFi was great. There’s also a grocery store right across the street, and another (slightly cheaper) just down the road , and the kitchen was super easy to cook in. Overall, a great hostel!

Lo bueno: ubicación, desayuno, Staff Lo malo: no hay conectores en cada cama, hace mucho calor en la habitación si vas en verano

Clean hostel with small rooms and shared bathroom on floor. Luggage could be kept in storage room, opened only by staff or in lockers in rooms. The hostel is next to a train station and if you are a light sleeper this may be a problem. Super close to London eye and within ten minutes walk to Westminster palace and Big Ben. Staff is super friendly and honestly the nicest people we met in London. I would recommend staying here. Also free good breakfast and free towels included!

Wonderful place to stay - but very close to the train station which made it a little hard to sleep at times. Otherwise a perfect location (super close to museums, London Eye, etc). Facilities were clean but there was no elevator and the staff watched me struggle with my bags up the stairs without offering to help me carry anything (which is nit picky I know, but 3 flights of stairs with a lot of bags was difficult). Great bar downstairs!

I feel like any hostel with a bar gets a lot of leeway. My stay was fine. Good value and good location, but it was definitely a sub par place. Security is a joke. They don't seem to change the door codes regularly. Even if they do, they leave them openly visible on their computer screen. There is one toilet for an entire floor and the sink is in the shower room. So you can't wash your hands if it's occupied. Gross. Literally nowhere to hang out with people. Especially after 11pm.
