Overview

With its on-site traditional pub (stocked with English real ales) and a Union Jack flag, The Walrus Hostel has a proper Cool Britannia feel – so it's just the spot for getting a taste of London. You'll have free Wi-Fi for planning your routes to the sights, or grab one of our free city maps if your overseas data plan's pricey. There's a free breakfast, including fresh orange juice and Marmite – a British classic – to keep you going till lunchtime, and a kitchen for whipping up dinner with your new travel buddies.

Location

We're in a really central location about a 10-minute walk from Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. You can stroll to London Waterloo station in 6 minutes to catch a train or underground to check out Oxford Street's shops. Waterloo is also where you'll arrive if you're taking the train from Gatwick Airport – just change at Clapham Junction and you'll be here in less than an hour. We've also got bike hire if you fancy cycling along the Thames – the riverfront is 5 minutes away.

Rooms and Dorms

There are mixed and female-only dorms, with linen included and towels for hire. You'll have your own security locker to pop your backpack in, and there are shared bathrooms with hot showers on every floor. There's also a private room if you prefer to have your own space.

Extras and activities

You can borrow an adaptor from the bar for a deposit if you've forgotten to pack yours, and pick up a novel from the book exchange for downtime. Ask staff for extras like earplugs as well – great if you need a nap after a late night making the most of our happy hour or themed drink nights (did someone say Mojito Mondays?). To keep your passport secure, we've got a safe manned by the staff. There's a luggage room for stashing your suitcase after check-out, too.

The Walrus is in a great location for sightseeing and getting around to other places. The Underground is a block away. The staff was extremely helpful and nice, and I really liked the vibe and layout, even though the rooms are small and you have to walk up a bunch of stairs. I would definitely stay here again.

This place was awesome! The staff are excellent the facilities are decent and is in a great location. Waterloo station is right next door so if you can't sleep with the sound of trains then maybe not the best location for you.

My sister and I had a great experience at the Walrus Hostel! It was very clean and had a great environment. We loved that there was a bar below that we could grab a drink before going out. Only downside was it is below/next to a train so it can be quite loud, it didn’t phase us but some people were bothered. Overall it was great and a very positive experience!

    Fabulous

I really enjoyed my short stay at The Walrus Hostel. The location is amazing!! I was able to walk to pretty much every major attraction with ease and the neighborhood itself was artsy and fun. The staff were all helpful and very friendly. As a side note, I wanted to give a shout out to the guests. We slept in the 24 bed room and there wasn't a single loud drunk, snorer, or early morning alarm clock! I was very impressed.

    Very Good

I am a female solo traveler. I stayed in a mixed room with 12 people. I didn’t like the room The plug to charge my phone was super far away from my bed, the lockers were small, there were only three showers, and the bar downs stairs was full with old people (I’m a young traveler). Wasn’t the best hostel to meet people. The positive side: the location is great and the staff is super friendly.

    Good

Paid for a room with a private shower. . . said shower was out of service all 3 days we were there. We were not offered any sort of discount for the inconvenience/change in accommodations. Shared a 6 person room. One gentleman insisted on propping the door open frequently, effectively negating the security of having key codes on all the rooms. Breakfast was free, but lacking in options and carbohydrate heavy. Not the kind of breakfast you want to eat before exploring London all day.

Great staff and good breakfast but bathroom facilities let the place down. Not even a shelf to put your soap on in the showers and never enough hooks.
