Location

Urban Garden Hostel is a 3-minute walk from Parque Eduardo VII (the city's largest park), as well as the Marquês de Pombal metro station. A 45-minute journey will bring you here from Lisbon Portela Airport. For fantastic views of the city and out to sea, take a 20-minute stroll from the hostel to Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara. To wander around the famous Alfama district – packed with historic houses, cute cafés and buzzing bars – just jump on the metro and you'll be there in five stops.

Rooms and Dorms

We've got beds in both mixed and female-only dorms, which all come with free sheets, lockers, bed lights and shared bathrooms. For a bit of extra calm, book one of our simple dorms in our separate annex building, which is just an 80-metre stroll away (you'll have your own free breakfast and coffee here). In the main house, some rooms have their own balconies overlooking the tree-lined street.

Extras and activities

We've got free Wi-Fi, so you can show off that delicious meal you cooked up in the shared kitchen on your Instagram story. We run social events most evenings, from movie nights to wine and cheese evenings. And with our free walking tours, surf lessons at the local beach and out-of-town trips, you'll have plenty to keep you busy.

The best hostel that I've ever been to! In few words, I felt like at home. I arrived at 11 P.M., worn out after a long journey, and even though that my stay would have start at 3 P.M. , the receptionist told me to have breakfast with others, so I was over the moon! I adored the eco-friendly interior, cool music from the reception and chill atmosphere in the common room. I am sorry to have stayed only for one night, but next time for sure I'll stay in Urban Garden Hostel longer!

Amazing bathroom facilities with lots of them. Great atmosphere too! The minor downsides very small locker with no lock (you need to take one or buy one) and no individual light by the bed. But other than that, I was impressed! Plus I was acually able to sleep too! :P

    Fabulous

Large hostel in very nice location. About 10 min walk from Rossio train station and 3 min walk from Marques de Pombal metro station. Rooms are what you'd expect for money. Beds are comfortable and each bed is assigned a locker. Lockers are not big, you can't fit your entire backpack, so you can only put your valuables in there. During my 4 night stay there I didn't experience any security issues. Breakfast is good for the price, manly sugar.

    Fabulous

Was a good place to stay with a nice common area and free breakfast, although as an ‘eco-hostel’ it’s unfortunate they only offer regular milk at the breakfast. My dorm had a door that was really hard to shut so everyone left it unlatched with a seperate ‘balcony’ that did not lock and small lockers you had to provide your own lock for. Definitely not a party hostel, all common areas close at 11pm. All things considered would probably stay again.

Lockers were extremely small, beds were a bit squeaky but overall a great hostel! Free breakfast, and staff were nice. The room was a little cold but got an extra blanket with no issues!

    Very Good

Most rooms had no heat, so very cold in winter. Mine smelt damp. Their info about what's for breakfast needs updating! Dorms were very small and cramped in main building and annex along the road. The 'luxury female dorm' is no different from mixed dorms. The annex which cost more had fewer facilities but the good thing was that bathrooms were next to you. In main building there was a long way to walk for them. Internet was good. 10 E refundable deposit for keycard. Kitchen closed 3-4 and 7-8.

    Very Good

On the surface it looks great, but it's in a poorly insulated building. There is NO HEATING AT ALL ANYWHERE. The kitchen closes from 3 to 4 PM for cleaning (which is acceptable) and from 6-8 PM so that some chef can cook a 5 euro dinner. The kitchen is well-enough arranged that he could use 1 half and the clients could use the fridge, microwave and 1 sink. When I raised this point, they said he does not like to be disturbed... Not enough pegs in the bathrooms
