Property Description

Voted the best hostel in France for 2011 by Hostelworld customers!

Vertigo Vieux Port is a newly renovated hostel in Marseille. As for Vertigo Centre that opened three years ago, you can find the feeling of a second home here.

We’re located in the Old Port area, walking distance from beaches, bars, clubs, the central market and the famous Notre Dame church.

We offer charming two-, three-, four-, five- and six-bed rooms. All of our dorms are very clean and equipped with comfy wooden bunk beds, private shower and toilet facilities. The five- and six-bed dorms are equipped with two private bathrooms.

Every room in our hostel is carefully designed and decorated by local artists according to the unique character of each room.

Our building was renovated from two typical buildings which makes for a modern cosy atmosphere, while at the same time it has the feel of a typical Marseillean house.

We offer a ton of free amenities, such as breakfast, Wi-Fi, linen, a fully-equipped kitchen with free spices, city maps, personal travel info, use of our travel guidebooks, luggage storage, book swap and a valuables safe at reception – all for free!

Our friendly, caring and multi-lingual staff are here 24hrs a day to answer all your questions. We'll try our best to make you have a memorable stay in our hostel and in Marseille. And of course there’s no curfew, no lockout and no stupid rules!

We'll make sure that you feel like you're home here. After you have been either on the road all day, or walking around in the city, you'll be able to relax in our cosy and friendly common areas, have a drink, talk and make friends.

**We accept a MAXIMUM of 7 nights stay in every 3 month period in dormitory style rooms.
**No check out and check in on same date allowed, minimum 1 night between check out and check in.
*Group bookings must be made by request only.
**Booking multiple beds in dorm rooms does not guarantee you to all stay in one room; to ensure you all stay together, book private rooms.
If you and your friends book a dorm, we will try and keep you together in one room but can't guarantee it. Book a private room to be sure to stay together!
**Minimum age 18 to stay with us.
**We are a non-smoking property; smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the building. View House Rules

Overview

From the minute you step through the door and see our bright murals – painted by local artists – we reckon you'll be wowed by Vertigo Vieux-Port. Our social areas, from the spice-stocked kitchen to the TV lounge, mean we're as fun and lively as Marseille itself. Whether you're chatting to new friends over the free breakfast, or showing old mates YouTube videos using the free Wi-Fi, you'll feel right at home here. Our friendly, multi-lingual staff will do their best to make sure of it.

Location

We’re in the Old Port area, a short walk from beaches, bars and clubs. The central market is an 8-minute stroll away, and the iconic Notre Dame church is 15 minutes by foot. To get to us from the airport, you can take the shuttle bus to St Charles Train Station, then jump on the metro (take the blue line) towards La Fourragère before jumping off at Vieux Port (the Old Port). You can stroll to us in 20 minutes from there.

Rooms and Dorms

We've got private rooms or mixed and female-only dorms to pick from – all with en-suites so you won't have to wake up early to avoid those morning queues. Linen's included, and your comfy wooden bunk has a storage locker under it for the backpack. We keep our dorms spotlessly clean (just like the rest of our hostel!).

Extras and activities

If a chilled out morning's on the agenda, open up a novel from the book swap or borrow one of our travel guides for inspiration on your next destination. You can also ask our staff about their tips – whether for Marseille or elsewhere in France. We've got free city maps to have a look at, too. The luggage storage means you can check out but keep your bags here until you're ready to leave the city.

I honestly wasn't expecting a lot paying only 26 euros for a 4-bunk room, but I was so impressed by the Vertigo. Everything was clean, the room was warm with a private bathroom, it was located right in the middle of the Old Port, and the staff was really friendly! The free breakfast was also an unexpected surprise. They happily stored my things for me after check out in a locked closet, which was a huge help. Thank you, Vertigo! I'll definitely be back :)

This Hostel is very close to the city center and main attractions as well as it has a supermarket and popular Fast Food restaurants nearby. There are 2 open spaces and you can also cook in the kitchen. The dorm was also very good, clean, with lockers. Unfortunately, the WiFi connection was very slow to work with a laptop, I could only connect near the reception with a limited speed.

I just stayed here one night so didn’t really get to see the place. The room was nice and cosy. The staff were so lovely. Didn’t try the breakfast but looked decent. Showers were great.

Very nice hostel clean, big rooms; multiple bathrooms in the rooms which was a plus. Although to me the common rooms were lacking in atmosphere. The storage in the room was too small for a back pack. Would stay again

The value for what I paid for was decent, although I've been at much better hostels for the same price. The room I stayed in was extremely cold however, did not seem like there was any heating at all.
