For this, Vertigo is the ideal place to experience everything Marseille has to offer. Our hostel offers communal space and a brand new bar restaurant where stories are shared and friendships are made. The rooms and dorms, decorated by local artists immerse you in a unique atmosphere mixing the past with the present. We offer dorms ranging from two to sixteen beds, with private showers and bathrooms.

From the minute you step through the door and see our bright murals – painted by local artists – we reckon you'll be wowed by Vertigo Vieux-Port. Our social areas, from the spice-stocked kitchen to the TV lounge, mean we're as fun and lively as Marseille itself. Whether you're chatting to new friends over the free breakfast, or showing old mates YouTube videos using the free Wi-Fi, you'll feel right at home here. Our friendly, multi-lingual staff will do their best to make sure of it.

We’re in the Old Port area, a short walk from beaches, bars and clubs. The central market is an 8-minute stroll away, and the iconic Notre Dame church is 15 minutes by foot. To get to us from the airport, you can take the shuttle bus to St Charles Train Station, then jump on the metro (take the blue line) towards La Fourragère before jumping off at Vieux Port (the Old Port). You can stroll to us in 20 minutes from there.

Rooms and Dorms

We've got private rooms or mixed and female-only dorms to pick from – all with en-suites so you won't have to wake up early to avoid those morning queues. Linen's included, and your comfy wooden bunk has a storage locker under it for the backpack. We keep our dorms spotlessly clean (just like the rest of our hostel!).

Extras and activities

If a chilled out morning's on the agenda, open up a novel from the book swap or borrow one of our travel guides for inspiration on your next destination. You can also ask our staff about their tips – whether for Marseille or elsewhere in France. We've got free city maps to have a look at, too. The luggage storage means you can check out but keep your bags here until you're ready to leave the city.

Hostel in the city center, by the historic port, close to the M1 metro station and bus stations. Good infrastructure of shops and restaurants. Beautiful views. Spacious hostel. Huge rooms, comfortable lounge, large kitchen for dining. It's just great

Really enjoyed my stay in Marseille. The Hostel was clean, looked nice, had a good living room and the staff was friendly. The only concern I have is that I got stolen 10€ in my room and some other guys also got stolen shirts. However, this totally not the Hostels fault, since it was some people sleeping in the same room as me. I would recommend!

Very good hostel. I got the 8 bed room and it wasn't crowded at all, very spacious. Also, 3 bathrooms inside the room. The kitchen was not the best, but I think it was more because of the guests than anything else. There's a commom space for socializing alogside the kitchen, with sofas, tv... good vibe! The afternoon recepcionist wasn't in a good mood that day I think, but the morning italian woman was super nice! Overal, really good hostel at a fair price.

Overall it was a great stay. I stayed in a mixed dorm but it wasn't uncomfortable. I wish there were curtains around the beds though, or some barrier, especially around the beds that are not bunked. The staff was helpful and the Barman was especially nice.

Not too much going on in the hostel. Pretty pricey for what I have seen with other hostels. Maybe because it is real close to the port.

I went to Marseille for the weekend ,to the sea . Nice hostel , great location near to the old port ( 4 min walking distance) . I shared the room with other 3 strangers , but everything was great . I didn't try the breakfast , neither the wifi since I had my personal internet package. they charge 1 euro for a towel . they give you also a lock ( 5 euro deposit ). Quite at night , air-condition is working . Clean beds . I'm not sure honestly if they clean the bathroom daily .Totaly recommended

I stayed in this hostel for three days in August. The beds and attached bathrooms were ok. However, the staff definitely lacks friendliness and a hospitable attitude. When asking a question, it often felt like you interrupted them, which they showed.
