The Eiffel Tower is in the 7th arrondissement of Paris on the southern bank of the River Seine. The quaint but sophisticated neighbourhood is one of the most desirable in the city, known for its fresh produce markets, world-class museums and verdant gardens. You can wander through cobbled lanes and stop for dinner at a cosy bistro, or walk along the Seine at night. Pause at the Pont de l’Alma bridge to watch the Eiffel Tower light up at night.

You can sit outside on sun-filled terraces, in landscaped gardens or on a rooftop with an urban farm growing fruit, herbs and vegetables. Rue Saint-Dominique runs through the centre of the area, arriving at Avenue Joseph Bouvard right in front of the Eiffel Tower. The street is fragrant with the smell of fresh bread wafting from boulangeries (bakeries). Rue Cler is a cobblestone market street where Paris’ most stylish residents go to buy cheeses and meats from delectable delis. You can also stroll along the Seine past ornate bridges, or head across to La Rive Droite (the Right Bank) to watch the fountains dancing at the Jardins du Trocadéro.

The Eiffel Tower is one of the world’s most-visited monuments. Built in 1889 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution, the 324-metre-high tower is the symbol of the city. The Champ de Mars (Field of Mars), a stretch of lawn between the Eiffel Tower and the École Militaire, makes a great spot for photos of the iconic landmark. A 2km stroll will take you to the Rodin Museum, housed in in the artist’s former home, where you can see his famous ‘The Thinker’ sculpture. Nearby, the Musée d'Orsay hosts works by Monet, Van Gogh and Renoir.

There are several Métro stations within a 15-minute walk of the Eiffel Tower, including Trocadéro, Bir-Hakeim and École Militaire. The closest RER (Réseau Express Régional/Regional Express Network) train station is Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel, 500 metres from the site. There are also several bus routes that stop nearby. Charles de Gaulle International Airport is 30km northeast of Paris and has a Ouibus service that travels directly to the Eiffel Tower in around 40 minutes.
