If you’re going to Fort Lauderdale, you’re definitely planning on sitting on the beach, basking in the sun, and maybe even picking up that book that’s been sitting beside your bed since you made that New Year’s resolution. What you probably aren’t planning on doing (but should be) is exploring the parks in the area. You can do everything from canoeing and biking to fishing and birdwatching in Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, and you won’t regret seeing the creepy banyan trees either.
Fort Lauderdale has an extensive bus network to get you around all the attractions. There are also rental bikes that you should take advantage of and ride along the beach. A Brightline train can get you to West Palm Beach and/or Miami or use Amtrak for longer trips to other cities. Otherwise, you will need to rent a car, use a taxi or ridesharing service to get around.
