Set in one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland, with stunning views over the town and surrounding area, Pitlochry Youth Hostel is perfectly located for anyone looking to explore Highland Perthshire.

Sitting away from the noise and bustle of the busy main street, the hostel offers a wide range of comfortable en-suite rooms and is great for groups, families and individual travellers.

Guests can opt for a wee breakfast served in the large dining room, with fantastic views over the beautiful Perthshire countryside, or take advantage of the well-equipped self-catering kitchen.

WiFi is free for all guests and other facilities include a laundry, drying room and free onsite parking. Basic provisions, confectionery and soft drinks are available to purchase at reception. The hostel is licensed and there’s plenty of room to relax and enjoy a Scottish craft beer or glass of wine in one of the hostel’s two comfortable lounges, one with a TV.

Browse the shops, eat and drink in local restaurants, or visit the town’s two excellent distilleries. Other attractions include Pitlochry Festival Theatre, leaping salmon at the town’s fish ladder, Blair Castle and the Queen's View. Not forgetting the magical ‘Enchanted Forest’ in nearby Faskally woods in October - but remember to book early for this one!

Staff were lovely and very helpful. Hostel was kept clean and organised, unfortunately a bit of a losing battle as needs money spent, carpets, flooring in bathrooms , paintwork etc all need upgrading. As no room lockers, it would ge helpful to have under bed storage boxes on castors ( not a huge outlay for guests convenience). Bed lights and more sockets /USB would be helpful.

Absolutely beautiful hostel. Lovely staff, great spacious rooms and bathroom and the tables out the front to look at the view are stunning. Felt so at peace here. Wish I stayed here longer!!

About Pitlochry

In the heart of Scotland, Pitlochry is a pretty and peaceful town surrounded by spectacular landscape. Visitors have been drawn to Pitlochry’s clear air since Victorian times and today it's a bustling little place and an excellent base to explore some of the country’s most impressive scenery. There are plenty of walks and hikes nearby, from relaxed woodland strolls to challenging mountain treks. In the town itself, you’ll find Highland hospitality in cosy pubs and restaurants.

Stay in a Pitlochry hostel in a Victorian building on the main street or pick a place with views over the surrounding countryside. You’ll be able to hang out with other travellers in bright, spacious common areas with comfy sofas, pool tables and as much tea, coffee and hot chocolate as you can drink. Chill out in a movie lounge or wash your clothes in a laundry room after a muddy hike. Breakfasts are available in Pitlochry hostels, or you could make your own meals in fully-equipped kitchens.

Pitlochry sits in the shadow of Ben Vrackie mountain beside the River Tummel in the Scottish county of Perthshire. The main street, Atholl Road, has low-rise stone buildings converted into restaurants, pubs and shops selling hiking equipment. Cross the River Tummel by the iron suspension bridge to find a few waterfront eateries. Perthshire is known for its woodland; on the northern outskirts of the town centre is Tay Forest Park, which has some of Scotland’s tallest trees.

Schiehallion mountain is a key landmark, standing 1,083m high. A hike to the summit and back takes around 4-5 hours and offers views across Rannoch Moor. Other popular walking trails include Queen’s View overlooking Loch Tummel and Faskally Wood, which is home to trees that are more than 200 years old. Back in town you can get into the Scottish spirit with a tour of Blair Athol Distillery, one of the oldest in the country.

Pitlochry is compact enough to explore on foot, although hiring a car is the best way to explore the surrounding area. The town's in the middle of Scotland and Scottish Citylink buses can take you to cities like Inverness, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth within a couple of hours. Pitlochry train station in the town centre has lines running to Perth (30 minutes) and Inverness (just under 2 hours). From Edinburgh Airport, catch a bus or tram into Edinburgh city centre (30 minutes), then take a train from Waverley Station to Pitlochry (2 hours).
