The beds are uncomfortable and squeaky, so you keep waking up whenever anyone moves. The owner seems focused only on their private lodges, not the dorms. There’s no staff around, and if you need anything, you’re on your own. No real views despite a great location. Hot water comes at the price of terrible pressure. The Wi-Fi is awful, and there’s no cell signal at all. There is limit on check-in time which makes you rush not to miss it.

This hostel was super cute tucked away in the rainforest - they gave me a free upgrade from a bunk to a private double room! The only thing to be aware of is it is a little far away from pancake rocks, punakaiki and some of the other walks if you don’t have a car.
