About

The Rock Hostel is a hostel with a friendly and cozy atmosphere, located in the old town of Matera in a 'lamione', a typical restored old farmer house, built with the local limestone rock in the 19th century. For many centuries, travellers who were getting to the Sassi (Matera's old town), after their long trip, they used to ask for accomodation to the farmers on the way, on the current road of our hostel, and their requests were always willingly accepted. There is a common area with tv, kitchen with kitchenware and stovetop, tea/coffee maker, microwave, fridge, books, sofas, luggage storage, tours desk, coin-laundry and much more.

The Rock Hostel is only 2 minutes walking-distance from Sassi, 4 minutes walking distance from the main square with active nightlife, and only 7 minutes walking distance from Matera central train and bus station, where you can get the shuttles to Bari airport as well. Around the hostel there are shops, bars, bakeries, ATM, fruit stand, farmacy, supermarkets, pizzerias and restaurants.

We have a total of 20 beds: two dorm-rooms with 4 bunk-beds and one dorm-room with 2 bunk-beds, and free WiFi everywhere in the hostel. Every room is soundproof and is equipped with private bathrooms, big lockers, new and comfortable mattresses, linen, individual reading lamp and electric kettle, desk, hair dryer on request, and much more.

Great location to see Matera. The old city was within walking distance from the hostel, with a great viewpoint only minutes away. Was also located about 10-15 minutes away from the train and bus station. The hostel was small and quiet with a small kitchen and common area. I found the room and bathrooms to be clean and tidy. This hostel wasn't very social with most guests only there to stay a night or two. The receptionists were friendly and ready to offer recommendations.

I loved this place. It was I think the cleanest hostel I've been to yet. Which I appreciated SO much. I loved that they took care of all their things as well. The kitchen was clean and so great to use. The rooms were beautiful and clean. Peter was THE BEST PERSON EVER!! I highly recommend staying at this amazing space when visiting beautiful Matera. The beds were comfy and I felt more at home in this place which I appreciate after traveling for the last 4 weeks.
