There are three main regions to find your hostel in Rio de Janeiro: the centre, the south (Zona Sul) and Barra da Tijuca. Not forgetting visiting Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain, the city’s landmarks. Anyone who wants to dig into the local history and culture can’t miss the Municipal Theatre, the CCBB museum, the Royal Portuguese Reading Cabinet (home of one of the most gorgeous libraries in the world!) and Catete Palace. Want to wander a little further? Board a cheap ferry and discover Paquetá Island, an adorable and historical islet in Guanabara Bay, or get a bus and reach Niterói city, home of MAC museum (based in an impressive building signed by Oscar Niemeyer, internationally recognised Brazilian architect).

The easiest wat to get around in Rio is… all of them! The subway is ideal to make the connection between the city centre and Zona Sul and to get to the main attractions. The bus can be useful for longer routes, like Galeão Airport or Niterói - but try to avoid traffic jams! And transportation apps are a good idea for short rides and night-time journeys.
