About

Shenzhen stands as a legend in modern Chinese history, transforming from a modest fishing village into a thriving metropolis within just over four decades. It has become a magnet for domestic and international talents, sharing certain similarities with its neighbor Hong Kong—located just a stone's throw away—while cultivating a distinct identity of its own.

Hua Qiao Cheng (Overseas Chinese Town, or OCT), originally established by repatriated overseas Chinese who settled in the area, exemplifies a meticulously planned urban community. Its evolution mirrors the city's own remarkable journey. In response to contemporary societal shifts, there is now a growing emphasis on repurposing unused or abandoned buildings and factories to foster creative and design industries. The Creation & Art Park—home to the LOFT Youth Hostel and the Contemporary Art Centre epitomizes this vision. A trendy place for music, café, bookshop, artifact, fashion, eateries, art galleries, designer studios of different dimensions, weekend flea market etc., it facilitates cross-cultural dialogue by blending traditional Chinese elements with modern aesthetics, forging a new creative lexicon.

The LOFT Youth Hostel embodies adaptive reuse philosophy: transforming dated worker dormitories into minimalist yet high-quality budget accommodations. The design respects the original architecture while introducing contemporary extensions. Strategic scaling, proportional balance, and raw materiality converge to celebrate simplicity’s enduring power. Through this fusion of old and new, the space becomes a visual chronicle of Shenzhen’s urban narrative and evolving lifestyles.

Spanning a 3.5-kilometer radius, Hua Qiao Cheng is an urban oasis where lush greenery covers nearly half the area. This "garden city within a metropolis" integrates cultural landmarks like art studios and theme parks, with ecological spaces such as the botanical garden, Yan Han Shan walking trails, mangrove reserves, which lies along an enchanting coastal walk from where the Shenzhen Bay Bridge linking this city and Hong Kong in a short distance.

There are endless things to do and appreciate, come and do it yourself. d abroad.
