About

Tikondane, is a non-profit, non-political, interdenominational, community-based organisation. Our mission is to fight poverty in Katete. As part of the Centre, Tiko Lodge allows an income to sustain community efforts: all earnings from the guests go directly back into the projects!

Situated close to Katete in Eastern Province, Zambia, Tikondane is an ideal stop off. Many people stay at Tikondane as a break from the road on the way to South Luangwa National Park, renowned as one of Africa’s best wildlife parks. Tikondane is close to the border with Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

Tiko Lodge offers various types of accommodation to suit any kind of guests, travellers or volunteers. There is a restaurant on-site with African cuisine and continental options and English breakfast. Some rooms have sitting and dining area, TV and simple kitchenette, ensuite toilet and shower. Parking is for free, and guests are welcome to join the activities of Tiko Community Center and learn about our projects!

We stayed for two nights on the way to Mfuwe. Had a great time during the dancing and drumming experience with the women from the community. Make sure to stock up on the freshly made peanut butter. The people are very kind and the community centre is located in a friendly local area you can wander around. Ate at the restaurant both nights/ mornings and the food was delicious and cheaply priced with big portions. Do not miss it!

Tikondane Lodge is a social enterprise and community centre that aims to ensure good nutrition through sustainable gardening, education and diverse income generation. Lots of great adventures to run out of Tiko as well. I witnessed a ghost dance that was an incredible highlight. Meeting the people of Tiko, seeing their programs and maybe even volunteering your skills is well worthwhile. Oh and the food is great, with a lovely verandah to enjoy relaxed food and drinks.
