Nestled in a peaceful alley just steps from the iconic Matsumoto Castle and lively shopping streets, Couch Potato Hostel is your ideal base for exploring the best of Matsumoto. Surrounded by local eateries, izakayas, and cultural hot spots, our hostel welcomes both hikers and city explorers looking to unwind after a day of adventure!

Relax in our cozy shared lounge, where you’ll find a variety of musical instruments—including the traditional Japanese koto—free for guests to enjoy. We offer free bike rentals, free Wi-Fi throughout the property, and free use of the washing machine from 8AM to 8PM (dryer available for 300 yen). Housed in a beautifully renovated former ryotei (traditional Japanese restaurant), the building’s authentic Japanese design lets you immerse yourself in local culture!

To make your stay seamless, we provide original maps of recommended local spots, day-trip itineraries, and a handpicked dining guide—so you’ll never run out of things to do or places to eat. We also offer free luggage storage before check-in and after check-out, and can hold your bags during multi-day hikes if you stay Couch Potato Hostel before and after hike, so you can explore Matsumoto and the surrounding mountains with ease.

【 Policies and Conditions 】

1. Check-in time: from 4:00PM to 9:30 PM
* You can store your baggage before check-in / after check-out. When you use it please text me before your check-in date.
* If you stay with us before and after your hiking trip, we can keep your luggage for you while you are hiking :)

2. Check-out time: by 11:00
* You can check out by yourself at any time. This is good if you want to leave early for hiking!

3. Payment: Cash Only (JPY)

4. Cancellation Policy
・If you cancel 6 days or more before your check-in date : No cancellation fee.
・If you cancel 5 days or less before your check-in date : You will be charged 100% of the total price for all nights.
・If you cancel on the check-in day or do not come : You will be charged 100% of the total price for all nights.
Example ( If your check-in date is August 15 )
・Cancel by 11:59 PM (Japan time) on August 9 : No cancellation fee.
・Cancel after 12:00 AM (Japan time) on August 10 : You will be charged the full amount for your stay.

5. Age restriction: NO

6. All the rooms are no smoking. *Smoking area is outside.

7. Breakfast not included.

8. Taxes included

*For reservations, a credit card is required to cover the Hostel World service fee and to guarantee your booking. Accepted cards are Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Diner, and JCB (debit cards are not accepted). If your card information cannot be verified, a link to update your credit card details will be sent during the booking process. Please use that link to re-register your card information. If you do not update your credit card information within 24 hours, your reservation will be cancelled.

** Payment for your stay is accepted in cash only. Please pay upon arrival at the property.
