It was an experience. Gary’s been sober for two weeks so unlike some we weren’t met by a drunkard. He’s on the granola now. Played us a song on his guitar too. The place did a job although it’s a right old state. Felt like we were on safari in another country where laws and health and safety don’t exist. Would we return? I think we probably would. Made a memorable start to a cross channel trip. You can smell the ferry port from the rustic roof terrace. And study the white cliffs up close.

Everything is covered in a sticky substance, chairs and couches have white mystery stains, doors are stained black from grime where they have been touched, the floors are rotting, garbage everywhere, had to squeeze past a blackened moldy mattress to access our room, The men's washroom smells like piss and has mold growing on the floor from over spray, the toilet stall is infested with spiders. The showers are falling apart, rotten. Only hostel in town and they take advantage of that. HELLISH

Had a great time! A bit rough and ready around the edges, but good for a night before the ferry.
