About

Looking for the perfect mix of sun, surf, and social vibes? Welcome to ITH Santa Barbara Surf Hostel — the ultimate spot for solo travelers ready to make new friends, catch waves, and dive into California’s laid-back beach lifestyle.

Just steps from the sand, our hostel is all about easy beach days and unforgettable nights. Think volleyball games with new mates, sunset yoga by the water, and bonfires where strangers turn into lifelong friends. Whether you’re chasing waves, chilling with a book on the sand, or exploring Santa Barbara’s funky art and food scene, you’ll find yourself right at home here.

Inside, our staff are more than just hosts — they’re your new adventure buddies. From organizing surf trips and taco nights to sharing local tips that only Santa Barbarians know, they’ll make sure your stay is full of stories worth sharing.

We’ve got a spot for every type of traveler:

Cozy shared dorms (perfect for meeting new people)

Female-only dorms (extra comfort & peace of mind)

Private rooms (when you want your own space to recharge)

Between beach sessions and city adventures, hang out in our common areas — swap travel tales, fire up a BBQ in the garden, or whip up something tasty in our communal kitchen. With free breakfast every morning, you’ll be fueled up and ready to explore.

And if you’re curious beyond the beach, you’re in luck: Santa Barbara is bursting with cool things to do. Explore the Funk Zone’s art and wine bars, wander through historic Spanish-style streets downtown, or grab fresh seafood at the harbor.

At ITH, we believe travel is about connection — with people, with places, and with yourself. That’s why we host cultural activities, language exchanges, and group events that make every stay more than just a trip.

So pack light, bring your best vibes, and get ready for beach days, epic sunsets, and a hostel community that feels like family.

If I could give it an 11 I would. This is the best hostel I’ve stayed at, probably in the world. The staff is incredible, Friendly, thoughtful. Feels like a family. The layout is very well designed to promote a social environment. Musical instruments all over. A bus to hang out in where it’s awkward to NOT talk to the people around you. If you want a place that feel like home. Book it.

The pod-style beds were great, but unfortunately that was the main positive. The all-female dorm had a broken window that couldn’t be secured, which staff knew about, leaving me feeling so unsafe I chained my suitcase to the bed. The hostel had strange, communal-house vibes rather than a traveller hostel atmosphere, and some staff made guests feel like an inconvenience. I also found a staff member topless in the communal changing area. Great location, but I wouldn’t stay again.
