About

Welcome to The Wheelhouse, a brand-new boutique hostel located right in the heart of Kuching’s historic old town. Housed in a lovingly restored 19th-century shophouse on Carpenter Street, The Wheelhouse blends timeless Sarawakian charm with modern comfort and community spirit.

Just a two-minute walk from the Kuching Waterfront and surrounded by cafés, bars, local shops, and cultural landmarks, this is the best location in town for sightseeing. The famous Borneo Cultures Museum, Main Bazaar, and Old Courthouse are all within easy walking distance — making The Wheelhouse the perfect base to explore the magic of Kuching.

We offer a range of accommodation to suit every traveller:
• Private rooms with either shared bathrooms or en-suites
• A modern pod-style dorm, where each guest enjoys their own built-in sleeping pod with privacy curtain, reading light, and plug socket

Beyond being just a place to stay, The Wheelhouse is part of something bigger. We proudly run a cat rescue program and shelter, with a percentage of every booking going directly towards feeding, spaying, and rehoming Kuching’s stray cats. Staying here means you’re helping make a difference.

With free high-speed WiFi, tour bookings, and a relaxed, social atmosphere, The Wheelhouse is the ideal place to meet other travellers, swap stories, and experience Kuching’s laid-back charm first-hand.

Whether you’re here to explore Borneo’s rainforests, discover local culture, or just unwind in a beautiful heritage building — The Wheelhouse is your home in Kuching.

It’s a fine affordable hostel in a good location, middle of Chinatown. The beds and bathrooms aren't the best but fine for a couple nights.
