Summary of traveller reviews

Medan Dazhong Backpacker's Hostel is praised for its friendly and helpful owner, Mr. Yao, who offers great local advice and tour planning for Sumatra adventures. Its central location is convenient for exploring Medan and accessing amenities. Some travellers found the jungle tour booking to be expensive and not as described.

Yao, the owner, is a kind guy, with respect and care for his guests. He’s full of jokes and ready to help with whatever you need, he’ll give you info about whatever you need in Medan and further travels, and he speaks very good English. The hostel is great for backpackers. You’ll likely find other nice backpackers. Beds and pillows are comfy. Rooms are nice. Showers are not luxury but good enough. The location is good and central, but close to a mosque that plays prayers early morning for 15 min

Simple, yet good value for money hostel with AC dorms, drinking water station, and small lockers. Right in the heart of Medan. The host Mr Yao is super friendly and helpful in all backpacking matters. He also offers tours for Gunung Leuser Trekking and a long Lake Toba day tour. I took the 1D Toba tour here: my young driver Pablo showed me the local food, all the top sights, and took some excellent pro-style photos of me there. Would stay again here for my next Medan visit.
