Discover The Helm – Airlie Beach’s Women-Only Hostel

Welcome to The Helm, a vibrant new women-only hostel in Airlie Beach, just a 10-minute walk from the centre of town. Designed as a safe, welcoming home base for female travellers, it combines a relaxed, community-focused vibe with the energy of the Whitsundays adventure scene.
Cool off in our two large swimming pools after a day exploring, or simply soak up the tropical atmosphere in a space created for women to feel secure, connect with like-minded travellers, and prepare for life on the water.


What sets us apart - The Helm is home to a specialised marine education centre dedicated to helping women gain real skills and hands-on experience in the tourism industry across the 74 islands of the Whitsundays.
Here you can:

- Gain genuine working experience in marine tourism
- Train in crewing on vessels, join Whitehaven Beach trips and sailing adventures
- Book complete scuba diving packages
- Complete First Aid and CPR courses
- Gain shipboard safety qualifications

These practical courses give you the confidence and credentials to work in marine tourism throughout the region.


Location - We’re perfectly placed for both exploration and downtime. A short stroll brings you to Airlie Beach’s lively main street, the famous lagoon, waterfront bars, restaurants, markets and the boardwalk. Coral Sea Marina and Port of Airlie (departure points for most island and reef tours) are an easy walk away. The neighbourhood mixes laid-back tropical charm with a friendly backpacker and yachtie buzz.


Getting here - Whitsunday Coast Airport (Proserpine) is about 35–40 minutes away. Shared airport shuttles cost roughly $20–25 one way and drop you at accommodation. Local buses and taxis are also available. From the Airlie Beach Transit Terminal it’s only a short walk or quick ride to The Helm.

Your room
Spacious room with 4 bunks (Beds 2, 6 & 8 double bottom/single top). Each guest has a locker & cupboard. Fully equipped kitchen: fridge, microwave, cooktop, kettle, cutlery, crockery, pots & pans—ready to cook. Bathroom with 3 toilets & 3 showers just down enclosed stairs.
