Welcoming travellers since 1998, we are one of Christchurch’s longest-standing independent backpacker hostels: a little piece of hostel history in the Garden City.

Escape to The Old Countryhouse, a cozy and vibrant hostel with FREE PARKING (and no parking meters), perfectly situated in beautiful Christchurch. Once you walk into the hostel, you discover a little oasis of your own. Our large, leafy garden is made for slow mornings, sunny afternoons and easy evenings, with sunny and shady seating, picnic tables and a BBQ. Nestled in a peaceful neighbourhood yet close to the heart of the city, you will be well placed to explore the city’s beautiful Botanic Gardens, colourful street art, charming riverside walks along the Avon, and vibrant local culture.

Perfect for solo travellers, backpackers, adventurers, explorers and bike-packers. our hostel is all about good vibes, friendly faces, and making memories along the way.

• All beds are handmade with New Zealand native timber, dorm beds that are designed for adults and each dorm bed has its own
reading light, power sockets with USB ports and a hotel-style safe to keep your valuables safe. Private rooms with and without
ensuite bathrooms.

• Communal Bathrooms & Toilets with a little touch of luxury, just for you.
A step up from the typical hostel: each toilet and shower room is individually private, with its own toilet or shower and sink, and
cleaned daily.

• Kitchens you will actually want to cook in.
Cook up a feast, pull up a chair and make yourself at home! Our well-equipped kitchen and farmhouse-style table are perfect for
sharing meals, swapping travel stories and connecting with fellow travellers.

• Lounges with comfy sofas, reading and writing nooks, shelves of books and games.

We recommend staying 3–4 days to get a real feel for everything Christchurch and the surrounding area have to offer.
3 days exploring the Garden City, wandering through its beautiful botanic gardens, discovering its vibrant street art and city centre, relaxing at the nearby beaches, and trying a fun local activity or two.

Have an extra day? Even better! Head out on an unforgettable day trip. Swim with dolphins in beautiful Akaroa or explore stunning landscapes and iconic The Lord of the Rings filming locations.
