Backpacker 41 Hostel-Taichung

This hostel is located just 5 mins walk from Taichung TRA station so it's extremely convenient if you're travelling (we were spending the night here travelling from the south of the island to Taipei). Aside from that, everything else is quite basic and not very appealing, but that's more than ok considering how cheap it was.

Overall fine hostel in a really central part of Taichung - close to the main bus stops, lots of good restaurants and cafes. The dorm beds are very hard but have relative privacy. Showers are pretty clean but all but one on my floor didn’t get hot. Laundry facilities on the roof are good (machines only take coins). As for hostel vibe, there is none.

Really not backpacker friendly. The worst hostel I have stayed at in Taiwan. Full of older creepy men who would stare everytime you walk by. Facilities very run down- washer and dryer didn’t work properly, The water fountain trickled out water, the bathrooms were not very clean. Didn’t have a plug socket next to my bed. They would open the room door at 11 every day for over an hour, the cleaner wasn’t even cleaning at this point- didn’t feel secure at all. You have to pay a deposit for locker.
