Ace Inn Shinjuku

IF YOU ARE A SOLO FEMALE DO NOT STAY HERE!!! On August 23, 2026 I had the worst encounter with a male middle aged employee I can only physically describe as he refused to give me his name. He has a large pot belly, is light-skinned, and has a foreign accent. This man was on a power trip and treated me like a criminal rather than a paying guest. On the morning of August 23rd I checked out. I was granted permission from the other staff I had only interacted with during my stay to leave my luggage and use the common areas after check out as my flight was in the evening. When I returned to the hostel in the afternoon at approximately 4:19pm I encountered this belligerent man who threatened to call the police on me for using the common area. I explained that I paid for 3 nights at the hostel and was leaving in 30 minutes. He verbally harassed me, talking down to me as if I were less than human, and did not allow me to finish my lite meal before traveling the long journey to the airport. He stated the area was only for guests to which I explained I had stayed 3 nights and was the only person in the common area. Feeling uncomfortable by how he was berating me I decided to leave and left my cellphone in haste. Instead of returning it to me at the lobby he told me to retrieve it myself. Mind you the elevator is very old and takes several minutes to reach the lobby and travel to the 9th floor not to mention it smells like a dead animal is decaying inside of it and there is mold. When I returned he told me he was calling the police on me. This man should not be working in customer service. He is very hostile and does not know how to interact with guests much less people for that matter. He is masagonistic! If you are female do not stay here. Other issues: lobby smells of feet because of all the shoes and slippers piled there. You will be stepping on people's hair in the bathroom because it is all over the floor. Shampoo, body wash, and hand soap not refilled. Encountered many empty bottles. The showers work on a coin system which you have to get out of the shower to put coins in everytime the water goes off. There are only 2 showers for 9 floors full of guests. Busy showers is a common occurrence. The bathroom toilet stall walls have dried pee on them. My capsule bed shelf had sticky residue on it. My capsule curtain had several hooks unhooked making it easy for people to see inside. The capsule light blocked the power outlet which made it very difficult to charge your devices. The entire place is very dirty! The elevator door closes after 2 seconds of opening. If you happen to arrive at night they close the front entrance and you have to use the side entrance with a keypad code that changes daily. This was very inconvenient to use as it has low battery and does not work properly. No instructions were shared on how to properly operate the kinks on the keypad. If another guest hadn't been entering at nearly the same time as me I would have been locked out. Also, the front desk staff take personal calls and have long conversations while on duty instead of doing their jobs like maybe cleaning or much needed maintenance work on-site. DO NOT STAY HERE!

Great place right by the metro line for access. Super clean and always staff around to help
