The Spot Central Hostel

Decent hostel, don’t like how it’s just 3 beds in a room with no privacy. For some reason the setup made it slightly awkward and also easy to disturb others in the room. I also didn’t like not having a locker. Not a social place and rooftop is cool but there was never anyone up there.

Unfortunately the 'overall rating' calculation is 8.3, because of the weight this website gives to 'cleanliness', 'staff' and 'security'. However, these should be basics. My real rating is a 6.8 - 7. Before I booked, I read reviews saying that this was not a hostel with activities and where you could meet people (which was a negative I was willing to overlook, since there were no private rooms left in hostels with activities and social areas), but the 'it's more on the quiet side' is NOT true. My room (more about the room later) was wall-to-wall with a noisy bar. On MONDAY night (a Monday, which made me dread in anticipation for the busier days of the week ahead) at 12:30am there was loud music, laughter and slamming sounds. It was so loud I thought it was coming from a dorm or room (I found out the hostel has no dorms). Then I went outside, entered the bar, and saw that the owner/barman/whatever had put on Spotify at full volume, and there were three customers only, at a table, making all the noise. The bar wasn't even busy. I do have to say that the hostel staff also asked the bar people to moderate the sound, but that's just because I asked. The noise seems to be a given otherwise. The other main problem I had was that I trusted the hostel and booked a room with shared bathroom that had no pictures. It's a bit dishonest to only include the picture of the rooms that have en-suite bathrooms and a balcony. My room was a dark box. There was a window to the 'patio interno' (aka pretty much a vertical tunnel), meaning no sunlight. The room is tiny, has a double bed, a chair, and a... how do I define it? You can hang 2 coats and leave one piece of hand luggage there. Everything else (ie a handbag or a backpack with a computer, or a 2nd piece of luggage if you're travelling as 2 guests, or even a normal 20kg piece of check-in luggage) must be crammed on the floor and you'd need to jump over it to move around. But worry not, you will not trip over your luggage and fall, because at night an 'emergency light' lights up above the door, right on your face, green and bright, and you will see the floor at all times, in fact, you will feel like you're sleeping in a spaceship (bring a dark coat or dark towel to cover it up if you, like me, are unable to sleep with the lights on - which will help for this insane light at 2m from your face, but unfortunately not for the light that leaks from the flimsy curtain on the window - I don't understand why hostels don't put proper blinds on windows, especially in private rooms). Apart from that, as I said, the staff is nice, the place was clean, the location is quite central, and it was not 'unsafe'.
