Ostello ValGrande is owned by theVal Grande Park Authority, given in concession to private individuals following the winning of a public tender. The current management has been entrusted, starting from the end of September 2024, for the duration of 8 years, to 121 eventi of Massimo Dellavecchia, thus in continuity with the previous management entrusted to Electric Land srl, as Massimo worked as a permanent collaborator in the hostel for the previous 5 years.

The ValGrande Hostel has obtained the level 2 (Sustainable Partners) certification of the C.E.D.S., the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism.

The hostel has 18 beds divided into 2 dormitories of 6 and 3 private rooms of 2. It has 2 shared bathrooms and 2 showers, a lounge, a dining room and a fully equipped kitchen for the use of guests so that they can cook their own meals.

The hostel is a public good, therefore everyone's, and for this reason we live our work as a service to the community by asking our guests to share this spirit and participate in some of the activities of the common management of the house. With a view to offering a public service, we have decided to keep the hostel open all year round so as to guarantee, even during the winter months, when the other accommodation facilities in Stork are closed, a shelter and the possibility of having a bed and cooking a hot meal. Also with regard to prices: in recent years we have hardly ever adjusted them, as the costs of utilities, materials and supplies have risen significantly. To make this approach sustainable, we ask our guests to actively and responsibly participate in the management of some of the small activities of daily life (e.g. making and unmaking their beds, keeping the kitchen and dining room clean after each use), and taking their rubbish to the waste room after their stay.

We pay particular attention to reducing as much as possible the impact we have on nature and on the place that hosts us: this is reflected in the attention we pay to the consumption of water, an increasingly precious commodity in places like these, of electricity, and of the products we use for cleaning, which in addition to being eco and organic, i.e. not containing chemical agents, are on tap, producing considerably less plastic waste, and reusing fewer and fewer containers (universal detergents for washable surfaces, washing machine, dishes, hand soap).

Hot water and heating are provided by solar thermal panels on the roof, and when not sufficient, by an GPL-fuelled boiler.

The hostel adapts very well to the various types of travellers, whether they are alone, as a couple, with a family, or in a group; with regard to the latter, if the number of group members permits, it is possible to have the hostel for the exclusive use of the group with ad hoc agreed terms.

By its very nature, the hostel is an accommodation facility that creates a mix of private and communal spaces, inviting guests to spend some moments of the day in a convivial manner, for example meals and after dinner, sharing experiences, life stories and the pleasure of confrontation and cohesion between different cultures and lifestyles; while not renouncing, for those who feel the need, some spaces of privacy with themselves and their travelling companion. For example, our guests appreciate the kitchen where they can prepare together and later share the food they have prepared, the large table in the dining room where there is a wood-burning stove that is perfect for warming the cold winter evenings, and finding a guitar in the living room for those who can play it. As a result, the atmosphere that is normally created is very familiar, facilitating a get-together of people who were strangers to each other until the day before, and who in a short time can feel like fellow travellers for a long time.

The rooms all have bunk beds, and in the two dormitories (beds in the shared room) guests are expected to have their own sleeping bag/bedding and towels, otherwise they can be provided, for a small fee, while the 3 private rooms are equipped with bed linen, duvet and towels. It is possible, at the guest's request, to have an additional bed for children up to 15 years of age or a baby cot or changing table. Only one of the 3 private rooms has a small en-suite bathroom (only sink and toilet, showers are however shared). All rooms overlook a balcony with a view of the mountains ahead, where it can be pleasant to stop and enjoy the scenery.

Among the services the hostel offers, certainly the most appreciated are the use of a fully equipped kitchen (which, in addition to a refrigerator and cupboards for everyone's food, provides a microwave oven, toaster, kettle, blender, as well as, of course, pots and pans and crockery) and a pantry of essential foodstuffs, This is very useful as there are no grocery shops in Stork, and from which guests without their own food, or at any rate all guests, can draw and replenish their supplies in an atmosphere of maximum trust and helpfulness, leaving in a donation box a financial contribution as reimbursement for the food used, and also for the use of the kitchen, water consumption, cleaning products and ancillary equipment.

On the small terrace in front of the hostel there is also a large barbecue for barbecues in company; in the bathroom on the second floor there is a washing machine (to be used in the same way as the kitchen and pantry) and a hairdryer.

There is a free WiFi connection for guests, which is indispensable, also because Cicogna is not reached by mobile signal, except in some peripheral areas of the village.
