Not Your Average Hotel

Best hostel I've been ever.

This is an adorable stay. Conveniently located in a very walkable and bikeable neighborhood. Well maintained grounds, friendly staff, pleasant bunk mates, and a LOVELY wraparound porch on the 3rd floor that made me feel like I was back in Louisiana. They allowed me early checkin without extra charge. The ONLY negative? My blanket was stained with what appeared to be menstrual blood. I had a very disturbing experience at this hostel and ultimately had to leave in the middle of the night because I no longer felt safe. The first night was already extremely noisy due to large groups of students, making it almost impossible to sleep. However, the second night was much more serious. A guest in our dorm was behaving very erratically, talking to himself and making it impossible for the room to sleep. We contacted the staff twice, but no effective solution was provided. Later that night, another guest arrived and an altercation started over the beds. While I was trying to explain what had happened, this guest, who appeared intoxicated, approached me, touched my face without my consent. At that point, I did not feel safe remaining in the dorm and left the hostel around midnight/1 a.m. I took an Uber to the airport, but because the airport was closed, I eventually had to call 911 for assistance and find somewhere else to stay until morning. I reported everything to the hostel staff before leaving and a ticket was opened. I also called the property three times afterward asking to speak with the manager. Despite these attempts, I was never able to actually speak with the manager or obtain a satisfactory resolution. I understand that hostels cannot control every guest's behavior. However, they are responsible for responding appropriately when a serious situation is reported. In my case, despite contacting staff multiple times, I was left in a situation where I felt unsafe enough that leaving in the middle of the night seemed like my only option. For that reason, I unfortunately cannot recommend this hostel.
