About

There is a great range of accommodation options to suit you including dorm beds, private cabins, glamping and some wicked camping sites. We can book in activities around the area, arranging free transport for you to get where you need to be.

We have a food truck (open in summer months) large outdoor decking, multiple BBQ areas, movie rooms right at the start of the Abel tasman. Yoga classes are coming back this summer and we have set up the vegi garden beside our Native Tree Nursery! Being off grid we work closely to reduce our impact and have recently signed onto The Marahau Pledge, creating positive outcomes for our little village including our net zero position.

We also have movie and reading rooms so there is space to unwind as well as the communal kitchens and dinning rooms to meet some new people and explore the area.

We also aim to help you make the best decisions about things to do in the area. We organise water taxis, kayaking, sailing trips into the park as well as guided walking tours, seal/penguin watching, canyoning, caving, sky diving, hand gliding, microlight flight and more. We will organise transport for you, so you can be picked up from The Barn!

Summary of traveller reviews

The Barn in Abel Tasman National Park offers a fantastic location right by the trails, with incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Guests appreciate the clean rooms, comfortable single beds, and spacious kitchens. Some mention it can be cold in winter and the on-site shop is pricey, but overall it's a great base for exploring.

The Barn was a good place to stay, but probably better in the summer! In May it was absolutely freezing cold, with no real indoor communal areas :/ the rooms were clean and cozy, and the showers nice and hot, but the kitchen wasn’t great, it was freezing and all the cookware was covered in soot from the gas burners and got on everything. But the location couldn’t be better!! Right off the trail and the staff were really helpful booking tours/boats

Clean, functional and comfy little cabin. An excellent food van on site. Slightly dodgy washing machine - didn’t rinse the detergent off so my clothes looked worse after I’d washed them (probably avoid that). Plenty of kitchen facilities, hot water and friendly staff
