About

¡Hola! Hello! Hallo!
We are looking forward to meeting you soon at Cascada Verde Hostel in Uvita, Costa Rica!

Our hostel is like a huge tree house, welcoming guests from all over the world to relax and enjoy our facilities:
Plenty of comfy furniture is provided to get some rest while travelling.
We have a really big communal kitchen, fully equipped for everyone's use.
You can spot Costa Rican wildlife right from one of our terraces and enjoy our stunning jungle (+ a bit of ocean) view!
But please note: We are NO party hostel and lights are turned off at 10pm ;-)

We, a German family from Berlin, realized our dream to live in the jungle and are happy to share our home with you.

Here is some hopefully helpful information about directions
and useful tips for your stay at our Hostel by the Waterfall...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please note:

- Our reception is open from 8am to 9pm.

- The rooms are usually ready between 12 and 2pm or earlier but if you arrive before that, no problem at all:
You can always store your luggage by the reception and enjoy our facilities until your room is available.

- We accept cash and credit cards but have to charge a fee for card and PayPal payments.
You can pay in both currencies: Costa Rican Colones ₡ or US $ (or sometimes EUROs).

- We have a big and fully equipped kitchen for everyone's use at our hostel
and we serve a delicious breakfast for 4.000¢ per person.
Basics like coffee, tea, salt, sugar, soy oil are also provided.
(Cooking is possible between 6am and 9pm.)

We recommend buying your groceries as soon as you arrive in central Uvita
because there is no proper supermarket closer than the SP Supermarket downtown.

Of course there are good restaurants nearby but you'll have to walk at least a few minutes to get there.

- We have 2 parking areas, no need to reserve a spot and also no 4x4 is needed to get to our hostel (just drive slowly the last part).
You can drive all the way up to the hostel for unloading and loading.

- Our hostel building is pretty open: Ceilings are not closed and everything is made out of wood.
Which gives it a very special atmosphere and that's why most guests love it here
but please keep in mind that privacy is - let's say: limited.

- For groups (4 people or more) we require a security deposit of $200 in cash or PayPal at check-in.
Please note that our hostel is not really suitable for groups.
Please respect other individual travelers and do not block any facilities with your group, thank you!

- Traveling with small children:
Due to security reasons we can not host children younger than at least 12 years.
Please check our pictures - as you can see, our terraces don't have railings and the building isn't soundproofed at all.
Please consider choosing a different accommodation if your child could be too "wild" for our construction. Thanks in advance!

- We have dogs and cats.
We need them to keep unpleasant visitors out.
We just hope you are not allergic or scared...
And that's the reason why we can not accept your pets, sorry!

- Yoga classes are offered by arrangement at our upper terrace deck:
Please sign in with reception if interested (yoga $10pp).

Important note for reservations during Envision and if longer than 5 nights: We will require a payment upfront.
Please check your spam folder if you didn't see our payment requests in your emails :-)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What to bring:
- It gets dark up here - please bring a flashlight!
- Between April and mid December it's good to have an umbrella.
- Mosquito nets are provided but you can also hang your own.
(Luckily we don't have many mosquitos...)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please keep in mind:
As you hopefully know we are located in the jungle
and yes, there are bugs up here! Not many but some.
It can happen that you see a snake or a scorpion.
It does not happen very often, because they don't like people,
but it is a possibility... So far nobody got hurt ;-)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

About whale-watching-tours here in Uvita:
Please check the whale season months if you only come to see whales!
As far as we know whales are here from mid July to mid October,
hopefully coming back at the end of December and staying until February.
Naturally, things can change so please contact us or a tour operator in Uvita
before you book your accommodation!
By the way: Dolphins are usually around all year round
and the snorkeling around Caño Island or hiking through the Corcovado National Park is great anyway!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A general tip for Costa Rica:
Bring a copy of your passport!
There are often police controls and they might want to see your passport -
but if you go to the beach, you better bring nothing more than a towel and swimming gear -
there is many small thievery Costa Rica, especially at the beach.
That's why it's better only to bring a copy of your passport when you go out...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course you can call or email us for further questions.

See you soon at Cascada Verde!
Safe travels and pura vida.

My favourite hostel I have ever stayed in!!!My friend and I absolutely loved it here, a massive peaceful treehouse in the jungle. I have been recommending to everyone I meet to go to Uvita and stay here - an absolute must if staying in Costa Rica. The owner Julie is absolutely wonderful and helpful - when advising about day excursions she advised honestly about safety regarding weather over profits. Our room got upgraded on arrival. Run beautifully, clean, gorgeous views and loved the hammocks!

Out of the seven hostels we stayed at around Costa Rica, this one was my favourite facility-wise! Fun structure with a lot of places to lounge, a very beautiful view to the ocean the second floor. Just enough bathrooms, more can be found if needed, which I appreciated. Hot water! Each bed had a mosquito net which I felt very safe in. The whole hostel is open air though so sound travels quite easily. Kitchen was nice. They offered laundry service which was a little pricey but worth it for our stinky clothes

Fantastic hostel! Great clean spaces for cooking and hanging out. Good chill jungle vibes. All staff was extremely friendly, except the one guy cleaning the kitchen all day who was constantly crabby and getting annoyed at everyone for anything possible. Ruined the vibe but otherwise everyone was so so great!
