*Portland's Best Location with an Onsite Cafe!

Welcome to Portland’s top-rated, family-owned hostel, nestled in the heart of the historic and vibrant Northwest District! Our hostel offers the charm of the local neighborhood while being within walking distance of downtown attractions, Washington Park, the Rose and Japanese Gardens, and a variety of hiking trails. We host daily events, including walking tours, beer & wine tastings, live music, and trivia nights. For over 25 years, our mission has been to create a welcoming, affordable, and safe space that connects Portland with our global community of travelers, making a positive impact in our neighborhood and beyond.

OUR HISTORY: Since opening, we’ve expanded from a 36-bed hostel into a village of 6 buildings, many from the late 1800s. We offer 40 private rooms, 140 dorm beds, 1 apartment, including a Group Lodging Building. Our 6th building, completed in 2017, houses our fantastic Hostel Cafe—a highlight of our guests stay!

SOCIAL HUB: Join us every morning for locally roasted Cascadia coffee and house-made pastries. The Hostel Cafe is open seven days a week from morning until late, offering an espresso bar and 12 local beers, ciders, and kombucha on tap. Unwind by our seasonal open flame fire pit, catch live music in the Commons, relax in our Secret Garden, or cook in our modern shared kitchen.

EXPLORE PORTLAND: Discover coffee shops, restaurants, microbreweries, museums and galleries. Hike local trails or use nearby transit options, with the airport MAX just 5 blocks away. Explore the Columbia River Gorge and the Oregon Coast on recommended tours.

HOUSE RULES: Our hostel is for travelers and cannot accommodate residents of the Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA metro areas. A valid government-issued photo ID showing residence outside this area and a credit or debit card in the guest’s name are required. International travelers must present a passport; U.S. travelers need a state ID.

We look forward to making your stay enjoyable and memorable!

Stayed in women’s 4-bed dorm and private double room. There’s no A/C running in the buildings, and it the women’s dorm it gets very hot (even with keeping windows closed). In addition, the women’s dorm does not have curtains - which I feel is pretty common in hostels nowndays. The cleanliness of the rooms is terrible. In the double room, I don’t think the bed sheets were washed, the carpet looks like it hasn’t been vacuumed or cleaned for some time, dip in bed. Obvious mold in bathrooms too.

Staff were fine. Check in delayed an hour or so (no big deal; they said they were short staffed). Would use them again for sure

This hostel was great! Affordable, clean, walkable to cool areas and close to public transit stops. I stayed in the 4 bed female dorm and it was perfect. They have a nice community area that connects to a cafe that was really nice for getting some work done.
