Pros: Friendly staff There's a nice restaurant next door made excellent fried chicken to go It's in walking distance to the train station The sheets were clean and there was space underneath my bunk to store my backpack. Cons: Irving is a poorer suburb of Dallas so it doesn't feel secure There's not much to do in the area They have a dog that lives there that is covered in fleas. They have cats outside and they leave cat food out for them

Some interesting people were staying there, which added to the overall atmosphere. The “old West” style added something. Matt, the manager, was great! He was always getting things done. The hostel is also within walking distance of the train at Irving and local buses to Dallas, so an automobile is not necessary.

You should realise that the term 'HOSTEL' for this place is misleading as the majority of guests appear to be local homeless people, as such 'Shelter that also offers accommodation to tourists' would be more appropriate. That is not to say that you cannot have a good time at this place in particular because the host goes out of his way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. If you can handle that sort of clientele, in particular their scruffiness, then a short stay will do you no harm.
