Located outside of Hilo in a tropical rain forest, Volcano Rainforest Hostel is a perfect place to get away from the city and explore Hawaii's beautiful nature. A hidden getaway in the middle of the Pacific. Our reception is open until 9pm but security is 24 hours. On Site Parking is always Free.
Aloha - Only 15 Minutes from Hawaii's #1 destination, Volcano National Park. Volcano Rainforest Hostel is surrounded by the Big Islands upcountry rain forest. Lush jungle, large Ohia trees and Hapu'u ferns surround the property.

We have comfortable rooms available. Each room at Volcano Rainforest Hostel has its own private entrance. The kitchen has dual sinks, granite countertop island and is very spacious. Relax on the terrace.

The property had garbage all over it.. old furniture piled up outside and very un-kept. When we were showed to our room, it had a broken window and lock that worked when it wanted to. There was a bunch of discarded curtains, bedding or some sort of old fabric hanging from the bushes right near the door to the room. To say the kitchen was dirty would be an understatement. We were so taken aback that we left and didn't return. The only positive thing I can say is the woman or owner was nice.

NICE FOLKS, GOOD PARKING, GOOD SHOWERS, NICE LOCALE, 20 MINUTE DRIVE FROM VOLCANO PARK, NEAR BEAUTIFUL ZOO, HELPFUL STAFF. FOR TOWELS, WE WERE GIVEN A HANDFUL OF WASHCLOTHS. THEY WORKED, WITH ONLY A LITTLE PLANNING. (WE HAD THE CHEAPEST ROOMS. ) A FEW MUDDY ROADS GETTING THERE, BUT NOT FOR VERY FAR. GOOD PIZZA IN TOWN. WE HAD NO PROBLEM WITH OUTSIDE NOISES. OUR ROOM WAS FAIRLY QUIET. THE COTS WERE COMFORTABLE. I WILL PROBABLY GO THERE AGAIN.

We booked 2n at the Hostel, we were welcomed by friendly staff, of which 1 smelled of alcohol. We were “kicked out” due to a school group being there and them not liking strangers on property with them. So we were “upgraded” to a 1/1 home which is currently renovated somewhere between kurtistown and Mountain View, in the middle of nowhere. It wasn’t the cleanest but they were only able to make it usable within an hour so for that it was okay. The property is definitely nicer then the hostel.
