Such a lovely place to stay. Everything you need and more. That rare combination of a vibrant atmosphere and good clean facilities. And in the centre of town.

The hostel was really nice and I would stay there again. My camera was stolen but it wasn't the hostel's fault. It was really nice that they have a sauna there and free pasta! I can understand the shoes off -thing but it wasn't that handy. The computers in the common area were really good. The price was ok for Stockholm.

Oh, I am so sorry your camera was stolen, I hope you managed to download most of your pictures before it happened. The no shoes-rule is very Swedish, and has to do with our nationwide fear of filth... I have managed to spread this concern internationally now, it seems. My English friend says she can't stand it when people enter her apartment with their shoes on, all since she visited me in Stockholm! Nowadays she can't stop thinking about dog turds that may previously have been trotted in... Anyway, it is part of the secret as to how we can keep our cleaning ratings this high, in spite of the dirty slush that covers the streets of Stockholm all winter. Cheers, Lena

This was my 7th time to Stockholm and this is easily the best hostel in town. A stones throw away from the central station so even if you are rocking a big backpack, a very manageable walk. Also close to shops if you are wanting to show off your masterchef skills in the very modern kitchen and close to an array of bars and nightclubs if you are wanting to add a Swedish flag to your list. Beds are so comfortable, its as if you are receiving a warm hug from god upon contact. Free sauna too.

I have to agree with the other comments that this is one of the best hostels I've stayed in so far. The staff obviously make a serious effort to make it welcoming. Other hostels should pay attention. Excellent!

My stay with City Backpackers was excellent! From the staff to the location, my stay was fantastic. The location is close to all the main city attractions and also the central bus and train station. Great hostel to stay in for the money. The walking tour was a great deal and the guide really knows about everything there is to know about Stockholm. The city itself is very expensive so the hostel rate is not bad at all if you put it into context.

Great stay. Great staff and location. With these places you are always at the mercy of the character of the fellow guests, fortunately this place seemed to attract the right kind of crowd, and any nonsence was soon snuffed out and dealt with. My thanks to Michael, the night staff guy, for making a slow & quiet Saturday night/Sunday morning a bit more entertaining. Thanks for the snacks dude! Dan W (Bournemouth, UK)

Hi Dan, thank you for the review! You probably have guessed, but we work very hard to attract the right crowd here... During low season most of the hostels around here rely of groups of grumpy Swedes who really would like to stay in a hotel while they are on conference in Stockholm, but their bosses want to save money by booking hostels instead. We turn down those guests at all costs. It's so much more fun to run a hostel filled with easy going, independent travellers. And having fun at work is more important than to make money. I'll pass on your thanks to Michael, he is a darling and a half, isn't he? Cheers Lena

Great experience - stayed in mixed dorm, had fun and respectful dorm-mates and the room was clean. Plenty of socializing if you want it, but perfectly fine to come and go as well. I'd imagine some of the rooms aren't so great for a quiet night's sleep as they sit right on common areas with loads of people. Mine was great though! Location is super, close to Stockholm C and plenty of shopping and restaurants.

I'm glad you had a good experience staying with us! It's true that some of our dorms are located near the common areas, and that can be a bit of a problem. That's why we urge people to stay quiet after eleven o'clock, and as you say, our guests are respectful usually, and keeping it down. Also, Stockholm has an awesome club scene for those who want to party all night! The main night life area Stureplan is just ten minutes walk from City Backpackers, so there really is no need to disturb your fellow dorm mates. Cheers Lena

Make sure not to book a room in basement. Because the majority of rooms are in basement without any daylight or windows. The staff is average but not extremely friendly. The Facilites are well-thought, moreover that you are not allowed to join the hostel with shoes impressed me much. All in all stayable, but avoid rooms in basement because this is really depressing.

Hi there, how awful to hear you got depressed staying with us... That's really the opposite of what we hope to achieve. Most of our rooms are above ground level, but almost half are in the basement, that's true. But in fact all of the rooms downstairs except one twin room do have daylight access. Some of them have windows in the ceiling, and the others have windows very high up. However, you stayed with us during the darkest time of year, when we all suffer from lack of daylight, with or without windows... I think that's why Swedes celebrate Christmas more passionately than any other nationality - we need a good party this time of year, dammit! In fact, long before the Catholic priests managed to christian the Vikings, we already were celebrating "jul" (Swedish for Christmas). Of course it had nothing to do with baby Jesus, but a celebration of the return of light. You should return to Sweden in the summer, and you will get more daylight than you bargained for! In the north the sun never sets around Midsummer, and you can go skiing dressed in swimwear and sunglasses in the middle of the night! Groovy, huh? Cheers Lena

I loved this hostel. I wish I could take that bed with me home, it was so soft and warm. The sauna was great and the place has such great character, not to mention that the staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Thanks so much!

Amazing hostel! This place manages to have it all. Cleanliness, security, amazing facilities and character. Great place to meet solo travellers, excellent walking tour led by the charming and quick-witted Lena. I would seriously recommend this place to anyone staying in Stockholm, and I will most definitely be back to experience the city in the warmer months.

Oh, I am blushing here, thank you so much for those kind words! I can't wait to have you back. You really should see Stockholm in May or June - it is breathtakingly beautiful and stays light all night. By then I will have my guided bike tour going, so I can show you more of the city. Until then I wish you the merriest of Christmases and a bloody awesome New Year! Cheers, the charming and quick-witted Lena

This was our last destination on our weekend trips and it was quite refreshing to walk into this hostel. It was extremely clean and had a warm atmosphere. the decorations are adorable and the rooms were very large with extra comfy beds. we stayed in an 8 person female dorm that included 3 showers in the room. having the showers in the room was very nice. the others guests were very considerate of our early bed times... we were tired from trekking all over stockholm. the area was great.

Oh, I am so curious now - those are such lovely words, and yet we didn't quite make it to the top in your opinion... I wish I knew what it was that you didn't like. But it's great to see your high opinion of our cleaning staff, they are truly awesome! Kindly Lena
