Excellent location in the old town, staff friendly and informative regarding trips and excursions, breakfast good and air con was a big plus!

nice place with great staff. they need to enforce the outside after 12 rule though. and have more for the breakfast if you get up after 8.30 then all the fruit and juice is gone. fantastic location and aircon!

Too noisy. Impossible to have a nap in the afternoon or to relax. Staff at the reception are rather cold, although they do their job. The cleaning staff were very friendly though.

Unfortunately, after we got to Cartagena, my partner got very sick and we were forced to fly back to the USA early. The staff at El Viajero was amazingly helpful and kind. They made sure we had a room where my partner would be comfortable and helped me to figure out timing and management for the flight changes. The staff was simply wonderful. While we didn't spend much time in the hostel, the facilities seemed very nice, the rooms were clean and the breakfast looked good.

This is one of the most uncomfortable hostels we have ever stayed in. If you want to listen to really bad pop music and get wasted until 3am, this is totally your place. If you don't want that, then you're screwed because the terrible music is literally BLASTED until 3am which makes sleeping nearly impossible. This place is insanely expensive for what you get. I will never recommend nor stay at El Viajero again.

Location is great but definitely a party oriented hostel. Private rooms at the annex are not worth the extra cost.

This was more of a party hostel where you will definitely have the opportunity to mingle with other travelers. Party hostel confirmed by dorm roommate passed out on the pavement outside our room after a night out. It provides activities and good information on tours with an upbeat atmosphere. The wifi definitely is not consistent with mobile devices so that was a negative.

What a poor and disappointing hostel experience. We stayed in room 16 and were very annoyed to see the staff sitting on the ground in front of the door almost every morning talking to each other, smoking, eating and not caring to move when we wanted to walk in and out. I twice saw the staff making their own meals in the kitchen during busy times and was very irritated to see them clean the bathrooms during peak morning times. Felt like the staff were the guests and we were in their way. Awful!

This is not a hostel for someone who wants quiet. Also, the Internet is patchy and there isn't a lot of space. The included breakfast was not anything to write home about. I had cereal. It is close to everything tho

To start off with I should say that El Viagero isn't my type of hostel - it's more of a party hostel, and I prefer somewhere nice and quiet to relax. It's well situated and in a nice area, and their breakfast is pretty good with fresh fruit, cereal and toast. I found the staff incredibly cold and uninterested though, and the place very noisy. Bathrooms and showers weren't very clean by the time I got to them. No common area, so people party outside the dorms, and wifi is terrible!

They had a wristband system for identifying who was staying there, but it seemed like not every staff person actually gave out wristbands when you checked-in. The major flaw of this hostel is the design, the long hallway of rooms is also the hang-out area, which includes a bar cart everynight, is right where people might be trying to sleep. That makes it loud. Besides that, it was well run, free breakfast in-addition to wifi, beers, and a tv room.

Fun place. Staff is friendly. Very social. Open courtyard promotes an atmosphere to get to know people. Great for solo travelers. Late at night the front desk staff may douse w beers and waters...or maybe the was just me?

The common space of the hostel is nice, breakfast is good. Showers and toilets are not very clean. Lockers in rooms are a big plus. The rooms are very dark and super cold!! There's air conditioning working at night which is like sleaping in a fridge. Especially bad was the fact that air conditioning was blowing right in the direction of my bed on the second level! When I talked to the staff about the issue, he was very rude, said he wouldn't turn the ac off and just offered me an extra blancket.

I originally planned to only stay two nights but ended up booking another. Fantastic and helpful staff, perfect location, great environment, the hostel was being cleaned every time I returned back to the hostel. I cannot recommend it enough. I will definitely stay here for all future trips to Cartagena.
