Why does this hostel have a high rating? For the most part I felt like I was crashing a high school party. One girl who worked at the desk never looked up from texting while she was talking to me, and forget about asking her for things to do. This is the only hostel I have ever been to where I was not offered a tour of the place--I was just given my keys with a snarl. The only bright spot was the German woman who gave me a restaurant recommendation. My private room had no AC.

Good location...note that NOT all the rooms at this hostel have AC. The annex across the street houses several private singles and doubles and these only have ceiling fans...so if you are looking for AC be clear in your booking. Also the showers are cold water only. In January that was fine, but just FYI.

Pro - good kitchen. social atmosphere. Con - quite dirty - bins in toilets overflowing. Also very busy hostel so random people coming in and out.

Lovely hostel, staff very helpful! Perfect location! Partys and music every day, if you are looking for tranquility, this is not a hostel for you. Air conditioning in all rooms, makes all the difference. For being a beach town, the showers are a little dirty sand at the end of the day, but nothing that is not contoured. I recommend and will return soon!

i have been traveling 7 months and viajero hostel its the best hostel i never seen!!! the most exelent thing was the staff of the hostel so halpeful and very nice. the rooms and lobby where kept clean in a 5 star standart. the hostel has a fully equiped kitchen which allows you to cook all your meals without leaving the hostel. the bathrooms are cleaned several times a day. the nights i spent in this hostel maid my stay in cartagena the best time of my trip (after being in many hostels)

staff seemed pretty disinterested and were a little unhelpful most of the time. going up to the desk felt like you were crashing a little staff party.

Viajero is my least favorite hostel in the world. This was my second time staying there and I only stayed there because it was the only option. The staff´s job seems to be only to get you in and get you out. They are competent, but very impersonal. After midnight anything goes despite it supposedly being lights out and unfortunately, the social area is right outside the rooms, so bring earplugs.

The room was in poor conditions! We paid for a superior room and the bed linen were dirty and the towels very old

We arrived from Amsterdam around 12 at night but there was still a lot of loud music going on in the main building. Luckely we stayed in a seperate building further up the street. The room was a lot smaller than it looked on the pictures and we thought it lacked of atmosphere. Location is good, however Cartagena is quite small so everything is close by. Since it was holiday season the prices were up but we think it was too much. We ended up paying 440.000 cop. for 3 nights (around 170 euros)

We paid more to stay here hoping to meet people and then were put into their annex down the road, which we didn't even know existed. This made meeting other people much more difficult. But it's on a beautiful street and located inside the walled city so if you can somehow confirm that you will stay in the main building, it seems like it would be worth it. They arrange a lot of trips with travelers from the hostel too and have different activities at night.

Pros: Very nice place; beatiful, very friendly staff, good food, relaxed atmosphere, ok beds and facilities. Cons: A bit expensive, the wifi barely works, they turn of AC at 7am so if you sleep in after 9am you will wake up in a pool of sweat.

This is a total party hostel. It is loud, busy and dirty. The breakfast is terrible - sugary cereal accompanied by a bowl of sugar! When asked to clean the overflowing garbage can in the bathroom, the staff was dismissive. There are many other better options for the price in Cartagena.

Good location and Aircon in rooms. Bad wifi and staff weren't overly helpful. Good free salsa lessons but no real bar.
