We (German couple) stayed for 2 nights in the hostel. If you're looking for a calm hostel with relaxing atmosphere (really nice lounge), you should chose this one - due to its location it's not the kind of party hostel you often get. The staff was really friendly & helpful (you can store your luggage after you checked out for a while) & the rooms were simple but clean. You shouldn't expect too much from the breakfast but it's enough to start the day without an empty tummy. We enjoyed the stay!

The hostel is really nice, 5 minutes walking from the station Island Gardens, located in the 2 zone, so it takes 20 minutes by metro from the center. The hostel is VERY clean, really nice bar and comom room. The breakfest is really poor and some beds are not confortable, is not a party hostel and there are old people as well, but I meet really nice people there. The Italian guy from the reception is awesome and helpfull! could definatelly recomend this hostel :)

Even though it's out of the way, it's cheap so I have no complaints. The staff there are really friendly and helpful :) had a nice chat with one of the Italian staff there too. Good experience!

Would be nice if there's a fridge for travellers. Also the atmosphere seems to be lacking. Maybe too much technology has destroyed normal communication in general. Think if you could invent a way to encourage socialising in the common area.. Apart from that, you're great! Thanks

Please add some shelves or small hooks for hanging stuff to rooms. Everyone keeps their stuff at floor because there is no other place to put it.

checking in wasnt as welcoming as it could have been, left standing while the one member of staff served beer in the pub and made no effort to assit for 10 mins, room was basic but served our needs, over all the place was ok, good value for money, pizza good for the price, wifi was abit hit and miss, overall it was ok, good mix of ages, would recommend to friends and stay again if needed to stay in that part of london...... security was good which is always important.

Staff should facilitate bonding among hostel guests. There should be nightly events to encourage conversation and laughter.

As a backpacker: never ever again this hostel. If you want to stay 1-3 days you can choose this hostel. Most of the people left the hostel very early. In my case (come back late to the hostel and I want to sleep till 10/11 o clock) it was a terrible loacation. At 10 o clock the stuff cleaned the room - very loud and unfriendly...

This was the most charming little hostel I have ever stayed in. The rooms were spacious enough and the breakfast was minimal, but good. It was a quick trip into the heart of te city and it was nice to get away from the craziness when returning at night (area of the hostel is very calm). The staff was very nice and attentive. The only complaint I have is that the bar closes at 11pm every night!

very good place to stay, nice people, good facilities, definitely very worth its price! Only a bit far from centre, but the zone is very very nice indeed.

It is a really good value for the money. Everything was fine. Clean bathroom with hot shower, daily cleaning in the rooms. Secure stay in quiet area. 24hrs reception which is good if you go out nightime. Not really a party-hostel so you can get sleep easy. On the other hand there is no any kitchen facilities, also not too many switch in the rooms, but common area has enough. Location is ok if you wanna reach the city 20 min. by bus or DLR.

The bar was really nice! They have excellent pizza!! And live music on Fridays which was really fun!! To go from the bar to the rooms area you have to punch in a passcode and to get into each individual room you need and additional passcode so I felt very safe. The rooms have tiny lockers for you to store things in too!

So nice place, with a great atmosphere, very cute, smiley and helpful staff and I really have no complains about the cleanliness. The location was also good - two minutes from the bus stop and the train station. It is also good if you are going to a concert in O2 arena :). If I have the opportunity to go back in London I would definitely stay in this hostel again :)

My friend and I took such a short trip to London that we weren't very picky about our hostel. I wouldn't say I was blown away by The Great Eastern, but it was a pleasant enough stay. When I first arrived, I had my doubts. It didn't seem to have a very bubbly atmosphere and it was much further from the city that I wanted it to be. That being said, the beds were clean, the bathroom was tolerable, and the staff was helpful. I can't say I fell in love with it, but it suited my purposes.
