Excellent location. Staff friendly but English speaking limited. The ensuite to our room smelt awful, and had a window opening on to the stair well only partially covered by a curtain. Directions are useless: note it is actually called "border town hostel."
Brillant team, very cute hostel

Excellent hostel overall, clean, safe, comfy, great staff and good working internet. Only two awful points: people were allowed to smoke in the lobby/common area, which made it an un-livable gas chamber. Second: I tried to leave the hostel at 6am to go take pictures. Nobody was in the lobby, I tried to call telephones, yell, bang into the wall for noise, nothing. I had to climb my way out on the rooftop, which was fun, but I don't want to think what would happen during a fire or emergency.
Staff not very useful for any kind of information, bathrooms not clean at all.
Additional fees of 30 if you need an air conditioned room. not worth for dormitories if only 1 out of 4 is occupying the room. This caused humidity. Bar with airconditioned is awesome but people are smoking in the area. Overall character is satisfactory but some details mentioned above should be Improvised.
When I arrived at the hostel, the staff first gave me a bed in an empty dorm, which smelled so bad because the walls, the beds and the floor were already moulding. I went back and they gave me another dorm bed one floor above, which was, better, but still really dark and humid. 30 Yuan for the dorm/night for the aircon is a lot. The staff is nice, but doesnt make up for the bad rooms.
One of the worst hostels I've stayed at in China. Rooms were damp, beddings dirty, spiderweb and mold in the room and there were loads of ants all over the room as well as spiders and a toad! Barely any water coming out of the shower head. No wifi in rooms, only place to use the wifi was in the reception which also double as a karaoke place. Had to listen to some awful and loud singing while I used the internet and when no one were singing they played cheesy love ballads. Will not stay again.
