About

The Pig is a strictly over-18s backpacker hostel, world-famous for its laid back atmosphere, private guests-only bar, indoor smoking room and friendly, helpful staff. This lively bar has regular event nights like beer pong tournaments and karaoke along with the cheapest beer in the city and daily drinks specials! Here, you'll meet plenty of fellow travellers soaking up the Amsterdam vibe.

Converted from a cosy Amsterdam townhouse, The Flying Pig has plenty of charm spread over 6 floors. All rooms are accessed via the main staircase - there is no elevator so be prepared for a climb!

The Flying Pig Uptown provides a comfy, freshly made bed on arrival, free use of the reception safe for small valuables, free Wi-Fi throughout the building and a secure 24-hour reception with no night curfews or lockout. Access is by keycard.

All beds come equipped with a reading light and individual lockers in the rooms (bring your own padlock or buy one at reception for 5 EUR). It is advised to bring your own towel, but if you forget, you can rent one for just €2. Please make sure to return the towel after use.

Fuel up for your Amsterdam adventures with our continental breakfast - prebook for just €7!
There are supermarkets nearby if you want to cook yourself a gourmet meal in our guest kitchen or treat yourself to the delicious pizzas available at the bar!

Located perfectly central in-between the museum and fashion district, the Vondelpark and Leidseplein, where the best concert-halls, clubs, bars and coffee shops are and most locals go out. You'll get that real Amsterdam feel and are still close enough to the red light district, which is only a 25-minute walk.

Take a stroll through Amsterdam's famous park: the beautiful Vondelpark, right outside the hostel doors - enjoy some drinks, smokes, or have a picnic. You can also check out the free musical and cultural performances on the park stage or play games with your (new) friends out on the open grassy areas.

If you're in for some culture, the Van Gogh, Stedelijk and Rijksmuseum are just around the corner, same as the beautiful Concert Building. Do you want to explore the Red Light District, some historic sites or Chinatown? Just take a stroll - everything is within walking distance. Public transport is close by, too.

But there's always more: go shopping at one of the local markets (such as the Albert Cuijp in the Pijp area) or the 'Nine Little Streets', drink a beer at the Amsterdam Heineken Experience or the numerous craft breweries like Brouwerij’ Het Ij or Gebrouwen Door Vrouwen or have a wild night out in the pop temple Paradiso, within crawling-home distance.

Please note that the Flying Pig has an age restriction; guests from above 18 to the eternal young at heart! Guests under 18 will not be accommodated. A form of Photo Identification is required upon check in. Accepted forms are a valid passport or national ID card. Driving licences are NOT accepted. Please note that we only accept groups of up to 10 people through Hostelworld and the maximum length of stay is 7 nights.

We really enjoyed our time at the Flying Pig - the staff were friendly and relaxed and the location meant most things were within a 30min walk from us. Our only issue was that we couldn’t use a padlock on our locker so we didn’t feel that our luggage was very safe. However, it was the only one in the room that didn’t so this is unlikely to be an issue for most people. Overall a nice atmosphere here and we would recommend!

very convenient location, making the city very walkable. good kitchen facilities and helpful staff. the bar does play loud music until 2am so that could disturb sleep but we didn't have any issues with it. overall loved the vibe and met some great people.

Loved the location near the park, super convenient! Showers were spacious. Toilets were a little tight for space, but not bad. The staff were incredible, thanks for being so welcoming and personable!

Hostelworld says

Flying Pig Uptown is located near Leidseplein, the Rijksmuseum, and the Van Gogh Museum, and is also next to the large Vondelpark, a popular relaxation spot. We like that this hostel has a bar and smoking area downstairs and is "very close to bars and the tram stop," according to our guests. Several visitors have also told us they appreciate the homey atmosphere, which feels "more like hanging out in a friend's house than a hostel."
