The best hostel ever. EVER!! My girlfriend suggested we moved in here. We really really like it.
The location is really convenient, just 2 minutes away from hbf, easy to get around, near the main street and also the coach station. fast wifi, clean environment, friendly staff, bar is extremely good. Bed is comfortable, large space. also many local tours can pick you up at the hostel reception, so was really convenient for travellers
We stayed in a 6 bed mixed dorm. Room was fine, with ensure, although the shower was tiny. Hostel has no kitchen which is disappointing for people trying to travel on a budget, but the bar is reasonably priced. Great location as everything is within walking distance and it's right next to the main station so it was easy to get to and leave from. If it had a kitchen, it would be perfect.
Facilities wise, this is a really good hostel. The bathrooms in the rooms are far too small and awkward to use though, but there are others down the hall. Loved that they have USB ports by the beds. What I didn't enjoy is that I'm pretty sure I was the only backpacker in the whole hostel. As a result meeting people, even at the bar was really hard. Not a very friendly atmosphere.
Generator was very clean and quiet. Good location being about a two minute walk from the HBF main station. Staff were very friendly. Very much like a hotel!
Only thing that could have made this stay exceptional is a kitchen. Bar area was lively, with lots of socialisation to be had. Beds were comfortable. Staff were extremely helpful. The cleanliness did seem a bit lacking as the bathrooms always felt dirty at any time of the day I used them. Other than that the generator has a great vibe and I have used another generator location as a result!
Great place right next to train and bus station. You can go anywhere in town with ease. Best value hostel in hamburg. Pretty clean and had an okay atmosphere. If you're traveling alone, the bar is a good place to meet others. Breakfast was decent.
The Generator hostels are always a good option. This one has excellent facilities for very good value for money, just by the train station. I would stay there again for sure.
It looks like a huge commercial hostel chain. Cheap and facilities are very nice, just next to the train station so you can go everywhere in Hamburg from there.
This place is great, located next to the central station eveything is on your door step (I know a lot of places saythat but its really true) including the reeperbahn, which is only three stops away on the S1. There's a food court in the station if your stuck for what to eat, but its easy enough to get about and find some nice restaurants. Always easy to meet someone to go out with in the bar and the staff on the front desk are really friendly. Book early as it seems to be quite popular.
The bathroom here sucks horribly. There is a shelf RIGHT ABOVE the sink, so do not expect to be able to brush your teeth, or wash your face without pouring water all over the floor. They should really fix that. Also there should be an age limit when it comes to people over 60.... In a "youth hostel"...as a backpacker the atmosphere did not exist at all... Do yourself a favour and stay somewhere else. Good location is all it is.
This is a big hostel. 7 floors and countless rooms. Its next to the HBF, but make sure you look it up before arriving, the emailed directions dont actually tell you where it is. As a solo traveler I didn't like the hostel much because youre basically stuck to meeting your roommates and anyone who happens to be at the bar (which is set away). Staff were friendly but the bartender was more interested in talking to his girlfriend (?) then pouring drinks. About 15 minutes from the Reeperbahn.
A very centralized location, Rooms are clean and tidy, however the staff did not seem that helpful to the customers while in the other hostels you can see that.
I didn't know this hostel had 700 beds until we checked in. It is really huge, fine if that is ok with you. Great for big groups, not as good if you want to meet people. Reception staff were impersonal, carried on a conversation while checking us in. Most bar staff were great. Breakfast buffet is very convenient and filling. Really small portaloo type shower &toilets in room. But there are larger bathrooms on each level which are good. I've stayed in big hostels before but this was different
A great hostel! The best - regarding to cleanliness, facilities, the atmosphere, and prices - I have seen in my travel life. Seriously, it was amazing and very comfortable to stay at yours. Hope to come back to Hamburg soon and will definitely stay at your hostel again.
Bathrooms/showers are small, at 6'2" I couldn't turn in either without bumping the walls and they give you the feeling you're in a RV or Camper toilet/shower. Luggage lockers are a bit small. Nice McHostel right in downtown. Easy to get to from train. Would stay again.
Spacious clean rooms in a very central location right opposite the main train station.
It has a good location. When you go out from the train station, and then you will see it. Everything is perfect except the bathroom and the toilet. They are really too small!!!!!
Great location, can walk everywhere and the underground train goes all night so you can quickly get to the clubs for only €1.40. No kitchen though :/ and bar food is a little pricey.
A giant McHostel directly across from the main station. It's great for what it does: providing affordable, efficient, super-safe, super-clean lodging in a prime location. The one thing you won't find here is a guest kitchen and the relaxed opportunity to socialize that comes with it. The rules say no food in the rooms, but with no kitchen it's unavoidable. I'd stay here again as convenient lodging but not make friends.
