Everything was great! My only slight complain concerns breakfast, as the area there was not big enough so during the busiest "breakfast hours" there was a very long queue waiting to be served (I actually waited in the line for more than 30 minutes) and then you could hardly find a seat. Of course that would not have happened if I was up earlier!! Also it would have been nice if the breakfast was included in the price. Anyway, apart from that everything was excellent! Would definitely come back!

Generator is located close to the main train station and therefore perfect to stay one night if your travelling. I found it hard to meet other people, since there are many big groups staying in this hostel. The facilities and beds are good in this hostel.
Great hostel, well located, excellent atmosphere. The beds are very confortable and the rooms are very nice. To repeat for sure :)
Good modern hostel with excellent location right by old town and main station connecting you to everywhere. Main drawbacks for me were: no kitchen, expensive internet and really tiny toliet and shower rooms - literally the size of those on a airplane - no joke - but as others have pointed out there are bigger ones in the corridors. Not a massively social hostel when I was there but nice bar and so many people staying that you're bound to meet someone if you want to. Genrally good, thanks.
Generator Hostels are such big hostels which all have great facilities (comfortable beds and bathrooms in each shared room) that are not always in the best location. This one was right across the main central station and round a couple of corners for the shopping block. Can be quite of a walk to the main hall and Old Town though which isn't the most convenient at night. Bathrooms are tiny even for me similar to Japanese bathrooms. Bar within hostel has happy hour every day and live music.
Perfect hostel. Visible as soon as a you exit the Hauptbanhof, 20metres away. Therefore easily accessible to all areas. Helpful staff who happily secured our luggage at no extra cost (some hostels have charged before) and were flexible with check out time. Good bar downstairs with free wifi throughout the hostel. Would definitely recommend to anyone. It was all you could expect of a hostel. If you complain about Generator, you must be incredibly hard to please.
Nice hostel, good location, right opposite the train station. Nice bar downstairs, but advertised happy hour doesn't happen.
On both the checking-in slip of paper AND a chalk board just inside the bar it said "Happy Hour from such time to such time" - but the bartenders had never heard of it. It's great to do promotions - but you really need to follow them through to make them work! Otherwise a pleasant stay, though checking in took over half an hour.
Typical mega-hostel. Not my style, but if you are just passing through for the night or are with a group of friends it's nice.
Overall Good hostel. We did have to move rooms once because there was a crazy old German man in one of the rooms, but I suppose that isn't their fault. My one gripe would be that there was no air flow in the building. The windows open just a slit, and the whole building was very hot and stuffy! If you like the big multinational hostels then this is pretty standard and you won't have any problems.
Weird people everywhere but I always felt very safe (and would be fine for a solo girl). Close to main station (literally 200m). Lots of cheap food places nearby. They never served food at the bar like the other Generator Hostels. Painfully hot rooms (I had to change rooms but the staff were very accomodating). Black guy behind the bar was excellent and friendly and made my stay great. If staying in a dorm, this is OK (apart from heat), if in a private room, look elsewhere for better value.
Another good generator hostel. The only complaints I have were the area it's in is a little sketchy, but it's right next to the train station which is nice, and our en-suite bathroom smelled terrible the entire time.
Pretty nice place. Loved the bar and hangout areas downstairs. Beds are nice and sturdy, but a couple of them in the room did not have access to electricity. Our room had a great view, but the bathrooms and showers are very tiny which was a surprise. I'd come back again I suppose.
It would have been nice to have had a buffet breakfast option. The queues to speak to someone at reception were always long so would have been nice to have extra staff on. Apart from that, excellent location, cool hostel, well decorated and did the job.
Very nice place to stay, easy to find, very good location. I didn't like the showers in the room but they had better ones in the corridor. I will be staying here again in the future.
I cannot recommend this hostel highly enough - friendly staff, clean environ and private facilities per room as well as a light, plug and 2 usb chargers in every cot. It more than exceeded my expectations and only three minutes of a walk away from the train station - a must for anyone visiting Hamburg

Everything was good, but maybe air-conditioner in the rooms might be nice for those warm days.

The rooms were a little small but there is a very nice bar and patio area to relax at. It is literally 250 meters from the HBF (hauptbaunhauf spelling?) central train station which is very convenient. We got a great deal on the room. This hostel would be nice for a hotel let a lone hostel.
