Excellent location, hotel-alike, excellent atmosphere, met 2 German local guys there, computers are provided in the 1st floor but No kitchen and the bathroom inside the room is a bit small
The security card doesn't work very well when you try to go through the main entrance. It's nice to have the meeting point for the walking tour directly at the lobby. The bathroom in the room is too small. Great to have own sockets and USB plugs for each bed.
First generator experience, absolutely delighted. Perfect location, staff were lovely and friendly, and helpful. They were understanding of our late Saturday night and gave us late check out at our leisure on the Sunday morning. Bar man wasn't exactly on his game, a trying complaint in an overall great weekend
Fantastic facilities - the fact they've installed showers and toilets in every room should be applauded, despite them being on the small side. The sheer size of the place means it probably feels more like a hotel, but this place really ticks almost all of the boxes.
The best hostel I've stayed! The reception staffs are so friendly, fast and tried to help us with whatever we need! You can walk to every sightseeing place with good weather - the location is perfect. The rooms are so clean with securities staying in front of the main door of the hostel 24h. The lounge on the ground floor is spacious enough and has a good atmosphere :)

Only stayed for one night, and while it has a fantastic location and decent-seeming bar, the facilities and amenities were lacking compared to other hostels. The in-room bathrooms (often noted here and of course unchangeable) were extremely tiny. Think airplane lavatories. And they weren't stocked with soap. Another issue: they don't offer towels for rent. Other hostels (big and small) usually offer free or €1 towels for rent, whereas Generator only sells them... for roughly €6. Pack a towel.
I did not like this hostel and will not stay here again. It did not feel like a hostel - food and drinks were expensive (more expensive than most other places in the city serving similar food), you are not allowed to bring in your own food or alcohol, there is no kitchen, and they charge 6.50 euros for a towel! It is a very large hostel so atmosphere is lacking. I would not recommend this hostel to a budget backpacker. However, the hostel facilities are nice (though quite small) and it is clean.
Really clean and nice hostel. Every bed has their own light and outlet which is convenient. The bathrooms in the dorms are pretty small, especially the shower. But in the hall you have access to bathrooms with much bigger showers which I would recommend. Otherwise, the hostel is really central next to the main bus station and walking distance to pretty much everything in Hamburg. The bar in the hostel is good and you have free access to computers in the lounge area.
The first awesome thing was that Generator is located just next to the Hauptbahnhof. You won't have problems with finding it, there's a big sign with the hostel's name on the building. The second awesome thing was the price :) The room was clean, although the shower was tiny - a little too tiny, taking a shower required creativity sometimes :) I liked that next to each bed there was a power socket and a light.Part of the staff seemed to be bored with their job, but the other part was really nice.
The bathrooms are really tiny! So uncomfortable.
This is a great hostel, well located, however it feels more like an hotel than a hostel. If this might be good because of the good conditions, like cleaness, still lack some common facilities that would make it more appealing. In first and most important it would be a small, even if small, where we could arrange some meals. Second, beside of the bar it is missing a more friendly common space, where people could just relaxe and talk. As a benefit, there could be a special price in the bar.
A good hostel for little people. If you are more than 1,80m or 80kg forget it. The blanket is short and the bathroom is the same size in a dollhouse. Despite this the wifi connection is good and is really close to the subway, bus and train central stations.
They don't rent towels they only let you buy them for 6.50 euro. My room was 9 euro. Ridiculous. No food on the premises. They made me throw out a brand new coffee coming in to change. I just wanted to change and drink coffee and head back out. Mostly it's a real cool location and good hostel. Great beds. Nice soft pillows. Storage under bed. Great.
Great location, you can see the hostel from the main train station. Do the free walking tour and the pub crawl that leave from the hostel, both were a lot of fun. Beds were clean enough but bathrooms were pretty gross, hair everywhere and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. Staff weren't especially friendly and it took almost an hour to get us checked in.
Majority of staff is very nice, shower and bathroom are so small you won't want to use them. Luckily there are both male and female bathrooms, with showers, in the hallway.. I opted to use those. The hostel is so busy it seemed like anyone could get to any floor, but it did seem like they had a security guy who was running around. The area is nice because it's close to the train station. I also enjoyed watching the old men trying to pick up prostitutes out front.... Would stay again. Nice bar
