I had an overall bad experience in this hostel, but that’s a technologic problem more than the owner’s fault. Sleeping next to the reception desk (in the same room) didn’t suit me at all, but Kenji‑san found me a deal in a hotel nearby which gave me the best beddings I had during this trip.

the managing staff is really helpful, keep up the good work, nothing to complain although I didn't actually get a room :)

Atagoya GH is very small, but everything is clean and the private room was pretty spacious for two people. Only one shared shower and two small toilets, but since there aren't too many guests we didn't have a problem. The manager, Wada-san, was extremely friendly and helpful, and had plenty of recommendations for sightseeing in the area. Thanks to him we got to visit a beautiful garden that's only open 6 days a year. We had a key to the front door so we could come and go as we pleased.

Loved my stay here, the owner is completely awesome and the place just feels like a japanese home rather than a hotel. A little far from the city center but right near the path of bamboo, and easily workable for anywhere if you have a JR rail pass. Would recommend this place to anyone!

Our stay at Guest House Atagoya was wonderful. The proprietor was super nice, accommodating, and genuinely helpful. He gave us maps/sight-seeing guides, suggested some gems that get overlooked, and even suggested an alternative train route to our next destination which saved us money. The Saga-Arashiyama area is a bit out of the way in west Kyoto, but it's a quick and easy train ride to Kyoto station. It's a comfortable stay and an excellent bargain, I highly recommend Guest House Atagoya.

Other than the tiny imperfection that the old-fashioned heater would produce strong gas odor, this place is great! very close to spots in Arashiyama, and convenient to Kyoto station by public transportation. Kind staff and clean facilities! I would definitely recommend it.
