The only aspect I would change would be the $5 deposit for the key. The amount is not the problem and it is returned when the key is returned. But if you don't happen to have the cash on you, they want you to LEAVE an photo ID with them ie your license, your passport. I think that is a little excessive for a key. They could just put a hold on your credit card the same as they do for a room, or your debit and then reverse it. I know this sounds a bit nit picky, but that's all.

among customers it is not as friendly as it used to be . Every times, that I say hi to my roomates , I received no reply....not a word; there should definitively be must parking spots reserved for the Hostel in the underground pparking (3 spots are not enough).

A great hostel all round, you can't go wrong with HI hostels. I've stayed there on two separate visits to Halifax and on both occasions I was satisfied with the facilities. I was unlucky to have a snorer in my room, but that's all a part of hostel living. Keep up the good work Halifax HI
