As soon as you check in, you receive a map with the direction to the hostel printed on the front. The staff was extremely helpful and welcoming. If you ever needed anything they were always willing to help. Also, if they still do the Dumpling Dinner on Saturdays, I highly recommend doing it. It is a great way to meet people and talk about your experiences. I highly recommend this hostel!

A good value for money, safe feeling hostel in a great location, 3 mins walking distance to the Wild Goose Pagoda and plenty of Western food chains around the corner in case the Chinese food isn't for you. Staff were helpful. Room was small and basic but all you need for the night. Only complaint is noisy street behind during night but could be much worse (air con drowns it). Recommend for quick stopover for couple days if seeing the Terracotta Warriors.

Location was a bit off, and travel advice did not really seem up to date. The area is "under construction", as of May 2012, so hard to know what it will look like in a year. A new shopping mall and lots of restaurants nearby, and the park around the Pagoda is quite nice at night. However, the restaurants nearby were mostly popular chain stores (Haidilao etc.) so it is not really the right place for local specialties.

Not a bad place at all, the only thing we had against it was that the shower was either scalding hot or freezing cold. The staff was friendly and the location was great, near the Big Goose Pagoda and a Subway restaurant.... :)

- Very nice staff: Warmhearted, very good english, helpfull and good knowledge about Xi'An - Very nice location: Close to bus station to get to the city center, around the corner tradiitonal Xi'An food and across the street the Big Goose Pagoda scenic area inclusive some nice parks and water fontain park. - Clean Rooms I can only recommend the Hanwood and its staff and I will come back to finish the peaks of Hua Shan :)

we had a lovely stay at Hanwood and found the staff to be really helpful and very friendly. Unfortunately the hostel and the surrounding area had no power for our first nights stay. Meaning we had no lights and no hot water. However the staff managed this situation well and even offered us a small discount. The hostel is in a perfect location for exploring the wild goose pagoda etc. But it is a good bus ride away from the train station. Would definately recommend if wanting to explore south Xian

The room was dark, small, and window opened up to the interior of the hostel meaning not much light or air, plus it was noisy at night if the window was open because people were socializing downstairs. 140 RMB per night was overpriced for the small and dark room I had with a shared bathroom. No electricity the first day and night I was there, which wasn't really the hostel's fault, but they were ill-prepared- they gave us all candles with no candle-holders. Very dangerous. Got discount.

It's a little bit out of the city walls but its opposite the Monastery and Pagoda which are worth seeing, and right near to the fountain display at night (8pm). Hostel is small but nice relaxing reception with free pool. Cheap beer in the fridge and always cold, get free beer token upon arrival so can't complain. Staff very friendly and helpful. Can be low on westerners although was off peak for me. Lots of food places nearby. Rooms clean and beds comfy.

Great hostel, the staff could not be more helpful! They met us off our train and took us directly to the hostel, she then showed us where to get great breakfast and then took us to get train tickets. Wonderful staff, they also helped us to book a hotel in Yichang where we could not find a hostel and the hotellier did not speak english. The rooms were a little small but the bed was comfortable and warm. Common room was great, the pool table is interesting.... The internet is good quality.

Wow! The Hanwood was awesome to stay at! We got a private room with an ensuite bath and the price was really good. The place has a great feel to it and the staff was really friendly. They arranged for my wife and I to go to a dumpling buffet and Wang Dynasty show that was really cool. Great music, great food- lot's of fun. Andy is a great guy and very helpful. The area that the hostel is in is very convenient also, I highly recommend a stay. Oh, and while you are there write a note on the wall!.

The Hanwood Youth Hostel is a great place to stay at in Xi\'an. It was a bit cold, but the location (across the street from the big goose pagoda), staff (excellent English, friendly, knowledgeable - AMAZING!) and supreme French Toast (Manny\'s the MAN) are totally worth wearing your coat about.

Put the turtle in a bigger aquarium - it is dying in there. Get it an environment. Put the birds away from the cold.

Our stay at Hanwood was a pleasure. The staff were excellent, helping us plan tour routes and even meeting us at the subway to take us back on arrival . The hostel is in a great location and has a very friendly atmosphere. We extended our stay there and would definitely go back!

A bit far from the centre some will think, however best location in town, close to attractions and bus, from street restaurants to all mainstream burger chains. Staff very friendly and helpful. I would like to thank them all for the experience.
