Great hostel. Never stayed anywhere with long term residents (some people living there for over two months) really friendly people but inevitably a little clicky with long term residents having established relationships. Plus side is they know Melbourne pretty well. Just a little harder to get to know some of them.

Great showers! Lovely staff, nice location, friendly long-termers. Only downside was massive lack of power points and expensive wifi but these two were relatively minor issues for me. I would definitely stay there again.

This hostel has great character and the location is perfect for anyone wanting to explore Melbourne. The staff was very helpful considering that I arrived at 1am.

nowadays, in this modern city, the second large city in Australia, why there does not have free wifi in the hostel? it is very inconvenience for those come from another countries' travelers.

Very homey feel. People tend to stay in and cook meals together and watch films. Very lazy atmosphere. Lotsa nice people, mostly people working but some backpackers. Lots of 'long-termers'. The reception always seemed empty when you needed it.. But great place if you are just up for relaxing.

There were a lot of long-term guests, which made it hard to feel included. However, that is not the hostel's fault, and the actual facilities and staff are very accommodating and I would recommend Home @ the Hostel.

if I have chance to go back to Melb. I still book this hostel... , Good Location , Good/Helpful staffs and Good value for money

Home at the Mansion is a clean and good hostel. The staff is very helpfull and all facilities needed are present. Dormitories are big enough so there is enough space for every person in the room to move around. Would definitely recommend Home at the Mansion if you are looking for value for money and a safe hostel. Cheers!

A great place to stay: very nice staff and excellent location.

The location is excellent, near melbourne CBD, the staff is super helpful. But there was too much noise from other hostel resident & outside traffic. i stayed there for one 8 nights, i could never have a complete nice sleep. most other residents slept late and still making terrible noise from the common area at 2am All hostel window is facing Victoria Parade, a main road for traffic coming to downtown from east. lots of car flew by at midnight. no free wifi kitchen and common area is small

they are currently doing construction right outside the window, so if you are a light sleeper, stay on the top floor. they are across the street from the hospital and a couple fo blocks from the Melbourne CBD, so good food and fun things to do are right at your doorstep. That being said, you will hear the traffic outside. Also, book early because the rooms fill up fast.
