The room was too small for the price. The staff was friendly but not really professional. There is no large common room to meet other people staying in the hostel. The wi-fi was not free.

Owner Comment (Show)
Thank you for your feedback, it is always welcome. I'm sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay at the Mansion. I'm quite surprised by your comments regarding our communal areas as we have a large courtyard and two television areas. In the past, guests had free access to WiFi and we found they sat on their laptops for hours not speaking to each other, which totally killed the atmosphere in the hostel. Our Wi-Fi is just $3 per hour with the option to log in and out at any time and we make no secret of the large amount of cafes nearby with free internet access. I’m sorry to hear you found our staff to be nice but not professional but I guess we all get caught up in the atmosphere and just want our guests to have a fun time! I wish you all the best on your travels!!! Kind Regards Richard

Great place too stay however air conditioning is needed in the rooms, tv's in rooms not really required. Also the keys could be swapped for swipe card access which make it easier to go in and out of rooms.

Fairly expensive for a non en-suite, but the hostel is really nice and close to city centre and Brunswick street. It's an impressive building and the staff were really friendly. I didn't get a chance to use the facilities but they looked pretty decent.

Free Wi-Fi would be awesome, i would even pay a few more dollars per night if it were possible. Staff is friendly, great location. It is on a relatively busy street so if you are used to sleeping in complete silence then it is not the place for you. By no means it is loud, this is just a heads-up. All in all, great place. I always stay there when I visit Melbourne.

This place is ideal for a short term stays in the city at a competitive price. We have never stayed in a hostel prior to this and were quite impressed with bathroom facilities. The rooms are quite small where the tv does have quite poor reception however we were only there to sleep, great spot great staff and definitely value for money!

Nice place! But mainly younger people staying there, so don't expect to sit read your book quietly in the yard, that's the main party area... But if you like drinking wine with new friends this is the place!

It is a really nice hostel. I stayed in a 10 bed mixed dorm but it was just clean, you had a one toilett inside, the showers were outside but they were so awesome. i really enjoyed to stay there and would always do it again if i come back to melbourne.

The week we stayed in the Home @ the Mansion was my best week in Australia so far (and I'm already here since 5 month) ! I was really surprised by how clean the bathrooms were and how good the whole kitchen was organised, so for example the controlling of eventually abandoned food-bags and the free-food-shelf. The old building itself has it's own charm, with the high ceilings, coloured windows and the wooden stairs. But what we liked the most was the amazing atmosphere in the hostel!

this place is pretty noisy as some said. There is no AC, not even optional one. So it is pretty hot in the room especially the top floor. The bathroom is clean but room is pretty messy with the roommates having lots of stuff. One also needs to make one's own bed.

I stayed here for 4 nights in early January, and had a great time. I was in a 7-bed mixed dorm, with most other guests being long-term ones. Everyone was friendly and open, kitchen and bathrooms were clean, and the room & beds were fine as well - there were things on the floor in the room here and there as you'd expect in a hostel (clothes etc), but never rubbish and the room was hoovered daily. Quite a pricey place, but aside from that would definitely recommend.

My biggest complaints with this hostel are that there is no free wireless access, you have to pay to use one of their computers, and that they do not immediately offer a key for the locker in your room. Other than that it was an easy enough place to find at night, and a good bed to crash in after a long two days of traveling.

The hostel itself is gorgeous. The people were very friendly and the 24h reception is very convenient. Very well managed for such a big hostel. I recommend it.

The staff was helpful and friendly from the very beginning. We very much utilized their knowledge, and were able to find great bars and restaurants. With the exception of a day trip to St Kilda, we enjoyed the hostel so much we hung out there more often than not. Some people living there for a bit, others traveling through, but just a solid community feel of amazing people. HOMEsick most days after we left

The hostel is very good located to dicover the city. The rooms and beds are good, the showers and toilets are very clean! There are wifi available as well as several computers you can use for skyping but you have to pay for it! The kitchen is to small for such a big hostel more fridges and a better equipment are necessary!
