We adored our time here!! Three other friends and I stayed for $20 a night each and had a phenomenal time each night sitting around the table sharing stories. We met people from Finland, Canada, Ireland, and several other places and had a blast. We stayed in a shared mix bunk and even though we just left our stuff on the floor, no one pillaged through it. Everybody was respectful of our belongings and our sleeping schedules. The hostel even provided us with lockers to secure our valuables.

Conveniently located near Canal street - it's a easy tram ride right into the French quarter without paying Fr quarter prices. The shared dorm rooms can be drafty though and the nights can be chilly at times. Not much to see in the immediate area around the hostel, but it didn't feel unsafe with people walking their dogs or jogging in the evenings along Canal st.

The atmosphere was great, very vibrant, all the guests very friendly, and pretty diverse in terms of age, gender and nationality. The only complaints we had were that even though the weather was very cold no extra blankets were provided, and that the bathrooms could have been cleaned more than once a day considering that the hostel was full. Overall, would definitely recommend!

Stay away from that place!!! Very dirty and decayed place. My wife was afraid to spend the night in that house after seeing the room and the bath rooms. We left right away.

The desk help were friendly and accommodating. I especially liked Rudy and Chelsea. The breakfasts were wonderful! They made us eggs, toast, hash browns, and bacon for the meal called "The Works" which was my favorite. The eight-man room was very inexpensive at $17 a night. I liked how the Canal street was a main throughfare and was only one block away from the hostel. One could take the streetcar to the French quarter easily from the hostel on that street. I would like to stay here again.

Thetaff was very nice and helpful and the cleanliness of the hostel was such a nice surprise when we arrived. There was only one snag: the room was pretty cold otherwise I highly recommend this hostel!!!

Good hostel, cheap, clean and friendly staff. Only thing was that my dorm was extremely cold at night, even though I had a blanket and clothes on..

Stayed at hostels in London and Pittsburgh, and India house was favorable and most fun! Suggest repairing OB room door so it stays closed to avoid overnight freezing, skeeters and revelry sounds. Otherwise had a blast and service was great! Looking forward to staying next president's day...

better hostel i have stayed in the city, close to streetcar route and easily go to downtown/ rouses market and bus to airport! house has alot art stuff looks more friendly and comfortable! bathrooms are good but toilets need to be cleaned! big kitchen and good price for meals made by hostel staffs. a big sitting area and pool outside very enjoyable!! dorm is basic, has basic storage need your own lock, cleaning is average but the bunkbed feels shaky.

Compare to other hostels I've been to (Argentina, Spain), the lockers are not big enough for your carry-on. The showers can be improved. Doesn't have to be much. Things like, non-slip mats, better shower heads, bigger trash bins (they're community showers, but the trash bins are tinny).

The man who works overnight is extremely rude. Proceed with caution!

I had an odd time at this hostel. The staff were nice and for the first day it was okay as I was so tired from the travel, there was a lot of noise during the night as I had one of the outside rooms. I hardly slept for the next three days due to the noise and by the time they could offer me a room change I had already made my mind up to leave. I met a few really nice people but was glad to change hostel.

Great place to go to meet people with lots of communal spaces. During Mardi Gras the place was packed and you'd have to try hard not to meet some new people everyday. The rooms were a bit rough around the edges but all the facilities worked and anyone who's been travelling for a while shouldn't be uncomfortable.

Great location, safe with nice hot showers. Some of the staff was quite inviting and friendly but some of them were (pardon my french) assholes. The big Swiss-German with the moustache was particuliarly cold and uninviting for no apparent reason and seemed to want to keep sending people to the french_quarter exclusively. For instance he told me to stay away from Kermit's Speakeasy on Basin st because it's dangerous. I had the time of my life and met Kermit Ruffins no thanks to his shoddy advice.
