Staying at India House was one of the best parts about being in NO for Mardi Gras. Thanks for making us feel so at home here!

Very dirty bathrooms; bedrooms had creaky bunks; no lockers. One of the shadier hostels I've stayed at

Because of size not everyone can stay in the main house. My friend and I stayed in dorm room in a house next door (we were put in a 10 bed instead of 8!) The bathroom in the house we stayed in had two toilets and two showers in the same area. A shower curtain separated this area from the shower and nothing else! A bit of privacy and some space to change would be nice! The kitchen was difficult to understand - fridges for food but no bowls or spoons so we could have our own breakfast!?

The bathrooms were always wet, full of dirty towels on the floor. The cleaning staff were not helpful nor friendly, but the front of desk staff and cooks were awesome. Great atmosphere, made the people mingle comfortably and the food offered was excellent and encouraged people to return. The cleanliness of the bathrooms was the worst part, the power kept going out in the rooms when you wanted to dry your hair (so you had to go outside to do it), the coffee was never avail or hot.

I've only stayed in a few hostels, but this has been the worst. The room we were staying in was like a shed. It never had a proper door or window so was freezing at night. I had to sleep with 4 layers on and still couldn't sleep as I was so cold! The room was tiny, no space to move about what so ever. We only stayed one night and didn't spend much time around the hostel so can't comment on the rest of the hostel. Good point was that it was a short tram ride downtown.

Lots of character- a great experience! My only complaint was the cleaning lady came in EARLY on a Sunday morning (Super Bowl Sunday actually) and made a TON of noise cleaning while we were all obviously trying to sleep. It was like she banging stuff around on purpose! Why not wait til noon/checkout time?? It was really annoying.

Real good people, nice atmosphere. It's such a shame it's so far from the center of the city.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the hostel itself was perfect! There was a courtyard where they served homemade breakfast from 9-1 every day.. the food was AWESOME. To get to the french quarter you can walk or take the street care ($1.25 a trip). It was about a two mile walk (during the day, we were advised not to walk at night). Would stay here again if we visited New Orleans again.

Everyone was friendly and in good spirits, but definitely one of the dirtier hostels I have stayed at. There was a dirty cat laying on the furniture in the living room, and we found a flea jumping around in our bed. We had a single room, but it was basically a wood box with swinging saloon doors, and a curtainless window that looked out into the yard full of people. I've stayed at hostels all around the world and this definitely was the dirtiest with the shabbiest facilities.

Good place, rooms have heaps of space, tho the houses are left unlocked and anyone from the street could wander on in. Plenty of lockers tho. Amazing cheap eats provided for breakfast and dinner. If you allergic to cats take some antihistamines...
