Very cool place, good facilities and staff, although didn't sleep well due to cold and very uncomfortable beds

I thoroughly enjoyed my time being in "JAIL" all facilities were fantastic. Even on the coldest night in Christchurch so far this year, the cell were extremely warm. Out of 10 i would rate this 11

Very friendly staff, clean showers and toilets, a huge (and also clean) kitchen with everything you need. We are on a world travell trip and this was for sure one of the best hostels we stayed in.

A bit cold at night in the single room as the heater is not on all the time.

Great place to stay, only isue I had was that residents of the surronding properties hung around the entrance drinking and arguing.

Everything was cool, but i thought the shower draineage arrangement was gross because the drainage water flows from one shower to the next, making it pretty unhygienic You should partially screen off the end of the shower to provide a dry area in each cubicle , and a seat. M

Jailhouse provides a really unique experience! It truly is a hostel like no other in the world. The hostel is nice and clean, the kitchen is well serviced, they have a cinema and TV room so you can comfortably relax and watch TV or a movie (which is a real treat as you so rarely do when travelling long term) and the staff are friendly. The only aspects to improve is the layout of the light switches and power sockets in the rooms and offer some FREE Internet!

Great concept. The single bunk bed in a room was nice. Provided more privacy than other hostels. The cinema room was also a nice touch

I thought the jailhouse was delightful. The character oozed out of every brick. The rooms were very comfortable and warm. The staff were very friendly and very passionate about the place. I found the bathroom facilities let the place down, and I concluded my visit with a cold shower with a shower nozzle that you had to hold to get any water on your body (it drooped!!)

I had my shoes stolen from my room. I kept my room locked when I wasn't in the room, but I shared my room overnight with one person, and I didn't lock my bag while I slept. My shoes walked... This was a bad experience. Not the hostel's fault, but it has put me off backpackers, the people and the places.

the toilets were located very close to the doors of the toilet so they were quite uncomfortable to use..

Really cool place to stay and the staff were very helpful. My only comPlaint would be that it would be really nice if a basic breakfast was provided eg tea and coffee and toast... I got there in the early hours and had no supplies with me. I wa told tea was available but sadly milk wasn't so black tea after a late flight didn't hit the spot. Other than that it was a great place that I would recommend ( just take supplies)

felt a little bit clausthrophobic there...the staff was really helpful, but the location was pretty bad at night (expecially the hostel no through road with drunk people always there..) though not far from the city center. Room very clean, toilet quite dirty, not cleaned in three days and with the bin overflooding. The atmosphere between the hosts was pretty cold, ,internet is with hourly voucher that you can use only in one time, otherwise also with 10 min connection the voucher expired.
