I had an amazing experience checking myself in at jailhouse, I especially loved the concept and the simple white-washed walls! I was pleased to know that the kitchen, toilets and floors were cleaned daily. I would definitely do a revisit if I visit Christchurch next time!

Clean bathroom. Comfy and clean Bed. Best and most-equipped kitchen. Lack of heating system. Good location.

Fantastic place! Just a strange disappointment regarding the booking policy...why 2 nights is the minimum staying?? If I just have to spend a night in Christchurch why pay for 2 nights??????

Love this hostel so much we returned for 4th stay. We had been relieved to find it had survived Christchurch's earthquake. Kitchen recycling was not as good as previous visits - no clear labels on where to put paper, plastics, glass.

Nice place- they really milk the jail puns in every way! Pretty cool staying in a jail cell though!

A découvrir absolument ! Accueil sympathique dans cette prison transformée en auberge de jeunesse au décor bien étudié. Si vous avez prévu de dormir à Christchurch, n'hésitez pas, allez directement en prison.

The jailhouse was great, but we thought the area was rough, as we were nearly robbed by 4 youths - therefore, as great as the accommodation was, we would not recommend the place. We also happened to be in Christchurch when the earthquake hit - so all in all it was not a good day for us, made worse by the scummy rough shites who tried to rob us!!

Really quite something different, staying in jail! The theme of the hostel comes back in absolutely every part of it, from the staff's uniforms to the notices about check out times etcetera. Nicely done! Also: with it's solid walls and thick steel doors etc we felt really safe here during the earth quakes. Felt like we were in the sturdiest building in all of Christchurch, which was a big comfort to us!

Nice to have books and entertainment such as free dvd rental. Clean rooms but female toilets seem to be frequently choked. laundry room can be opened earlier e.g. 7am.

Thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay but did not eat there. Shuttle service to train station worked to the minute. We were surprised how quiet it was. A little cramped but then we didn't expect anymore! Would reccommend. Christchurch centre is very sad.

Very nice, clean hostel! Great security as it is an old jail. Staff and location were only average but the rest was pretty good. Overall a good hostel, not the best ever but pretty good. I would go there again. Free wifi would be good as well..

It's a nice looking place but it lacks atmosphere and the staff lack training and generally not overly helpful. Also a staff member didn't check me in properly and I returned to my room and my bed was made, some of my stuff was missing and someone else's gear was on my bed. My newly purchased book was never returned. The facade and the token value of staying in a jail is nice but it is a bit out of town and had some major internet issues.

the jailhouse is a unique and very interesting place to stay, with great facilities and friendly staff, and close to the city. the rooms are quite small (as expected in a jail!) but clean and comfortable with everything you need. we will be back!
